Comedian Jack Black was so desperate to become an "American badass" his teenage years were consumed with drugs and dreams of committing crimes.
The Shallow Hal star admits he was determined to be the ultimate tough guy growing up - but insists he has since changed his criminal ways.
He says, "In ninth grade I did acid and cocaine. I wanted desperately to be an American badass... a criminal.
"You want to belong to the tough guy club - running from the cops, hiding in the bushes, making schemes and plans to get it over on the man."

Comedian Jack Black has vowed not to take legal action against the bosses of a Texas-based company using his name to sell a line of men's grooming products.
The Shallow Hal star admits he was stunned to discover the existence of Jack Black Products for Men - because he never agreed to lend his name to the brand.
But, even though the products are misleading for his fans, Black is adamant any association with him can only do damage to their business.
He says, "I'm not happy! They even put a signature on the bottle. I haven't pursued legal action, but it's bulls**t.
"Here's the thing - I'm hurting their business. Who would actually want to buy my body cream? Who says, 'How do I get skin as smooth and silky as Jack Black's?'"

Funnyman Jack Black made a dramatic entrance at the opening of the 61st Cannes Film Festival in France - arriving by speedboat with 40 people dressed as giant pandas.
After docking on Wednesday, the 38-year-old danced his way down the pier with the stuffed animals and proceeded to amuse spectators with a martial arts routine - for his new movie Kung Fu Panda.
The Shallow Hal actor is the voice of Po, a lazy panda who must defend his peaceful valley from enemy invaders by learning the art of kung fu.
The film's star-studded voice cast includes Angelina Jolie as a tigress, Lucy Liu as a viper, Jackie Chan as the wise kung fu master and Deadwood star Ian McShane as an evil snow leopard.
The movie will premiere in Cannes on Thursday.
