1932 and 1933 were very busy years for young Shirley Temple. She appeared in fifteen films, mostly shorts, during this period. That's a lot of work for any actress....and distressing for such a young one! Back in the day, I guess they had little compunction for using (and I mean that in both ways) kids in films. I noticed another reviewer said it was her first film...but she'd already been in more than a dozen pictures before this.
The short stars Junior Coghlan, a teen actor who was definitely the bigger star when the film was made. As for Temple, she appeared in other family shorts with Coghlan and soon would explode into worldwide fame.
When the story begins, Sonny (Coghlan) narrowly wins the election for class president. He's super-excited...but his excitement is short-lived as his father informs him later that the family is moving to Seattle as hoe has gotten a new job. He also ends up getting in trouble and is confined to his room...and keeps sneaking away to play baseball...with occasionally funny results.
Overall, a cute little film that I especially enjoyed since Shirley was NOT the nice kid she played in later films but a little brat!
