Details on the Karen Black Fund: “Karen has been waging a battle for over two years with cancer. She has not talked about this publicly because she was hoping it would be cured and she could call herself a cancer survivor. Karen was diagnosed with ampullary cancer in November of 2010. After suffering through nausea, fainting and losing over thirty pounds, she was finally declared Ned – No Evidence of Disease in July. But by December 2011 a small tumor developed and another surgery was in order, which left her completely bed-ridden. Her cancer seemed conquered though. By spring 2012 she was doing a lot better...

So there are two movements peacefully coexisting within the horror community regarding the quality of video you’re watching at home on your oversized television screen. The first movement involves a thing called a “blu ray” (not a death ray so don’t feel threatened by it). It provides beautiful high defintion picture, crystal audio, plenty of space for rad extra features, usually, more special features than your brain has room for. On the other side of the spectrum, there’s shot-on-video movies. By shot-on-video or Sov for short we mean movies that are shot on or made to look like they’ve been shot on camcorders on VHS tape or other similar medium. I believe the word you’re looking for is dichotomy or maybe something more philosophical like yin and yang. Today we’re here to talk about the Sov varietal with which you may be slightly unfamiliar...

It’s Monday, so we all know what that means! Yes, it’s time for another rundown of DVDs and Blu-ray’s hitting stores online and offline this week. It’s a jam-packed week, with plenty of movies waiting to take you money, so let us breakdown the new releases and highlight what you should – and shouldn’t – be buying from today, August 27th 2012.
Pick(S) Of The Week
Detention (DVD)
Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook and Spencer Locke star in Detention, a hipster, teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is Cinderhella, a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life and is preying on the school’s student body. As the clock ticks and the bodies pile up, the likely suspects are embroiled in a race against time to stop Cinderhella and ultimately save the world…...

If you blinked you would have missed the UK theatrical release of nifty little Indie horror thriller Truth or Dare, so it’s great news the film is going to be getting a better showing on DVD and Blu-ray...on August 27. 20-somethings in peril from a crazed (aren’t they always) killer is the name of the game in T-o-d, and the trailers at the link. Synopsis: Truth: A group of university friends celebrate the end of term with the party to end all parties. Drink, drugs and sex flow in equal measure as everyone lets loose. As the party winds down, the focus shifts to a seemingly innocuous game of Truth or Dare. The party's socially awkward geek - Felix - has a crush on one of the most popular girls there, and this truth is brutally exposed to everyone, and he leaves the party humiliated. Dare: A year...

Pretty Little Liars 3.10 Review - The Liars' Usual Suspects Are Suspects No More... Or Are They?
Sorry, Liars! Time to reconfigure your suspect wall and the theories to go with it, because tonight's episode of Pretty Little Liars knocked not one, but three persons of interest off your radar. At this rate, no one in Rosewood is worth trusting. Not even the four Liars themselves. Also, while that little reveal at the end of the episode was everything, there were a lot of other side stories moving nicely along that didn't drag the main 'A' storyline of the night.
The "A" Files: Maya and Her Cyber Breadcrumbs
After cleaning out her porch with Ashley, Hanna came across an old letter written by Maya, who left it for Emily on the night she was murdered. The note asked Emily to meet Maya somewhere, but the Liars couldn't make out the place...

There's nothing like nature, is there? A flock of birds picking at the leftover sausages rotting outside your motor home. The smell of salty air whipping off the ocean. The sound of Albie's award-winning song entitled "In the Tent," that goes a little something like this: "In the tent, in the tent, in the tent, next to the RVs we rent, we rent, we rent." None of the Manzos are particularly well-rested, but Jacqueline's quite perky thanks to whatever cocktail of uppers she's sprinkled in her coffee. Our heroic menfolk are keeping themselves occupied by forcing Lauren's large boyfriend Vito to take off his shorts and show them the bear tattoo inked on his ample behind. All in all, a typical morning for our adventurers.
Soon it is time to try this thing called "surfing!!" even though everyone is multiple sheets to the wind. The gang -- minus Caroline,...

Hey, guys, we need to raise money, so let's put on a show!
That's the gist of "The Music Teacher," Hallmark Channel's first movie musical, premiering Saturday, Aug. 11. The plot has been around forever, but that does not make it any less endearing or any more believable.
Those who love musicals will get a kick out of it. And those who love them know certain elements are a given -- at least two people who can't stand each other will fall in love, the bad guys will be shown up, and all will end well.
Annie Potts ("Gcb," "Designing Women") sings for the first time on camera in the role of no-nonsense teacher Alyson Daley, who has turned troubled teens around with an after-school musical theater program.
"I hadn't sung in a long time," Potts tells Zap2it. "I used to do a lot of musical theater, and then I...

Welcome to the latest edition of the Pretty Little Liars Round Table!
Pull up your virtual chair, TV Fanatics, as staff members Leigh Raines, Teresa Lopez, Christina Tran, Nick McHatton and Carissa Pavlica gather around below to dissect "The Khan Game." What were the best moments? The most anticlimactic moments? Where do we go from here?
Read on. Find out. Chime in.
-------------------------------------------
Anti climatic or exciting: The stamp on Maya's wrist was from a Khan party?
Leigh: Both. Who the hell has a bouncer at their high school party? Then again, this is Pll and the Kahn brothers are shady. I'd bet money that shadier stuff goes down at a Kahn party than a game of Truth.
Teresa: Anti-climactic, but it holds some promise. I thought it might be some mysterious underground club thing, but I can't wait to see if there are some more sordid details about Maya's time at these parties.

Ted (15)
(Seth MacFarlane, 2012, Us) Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Seth MacFarlane, Joe McHale, Giovanni Ribisi. 106 mins
Those unconvinced by MacFarlane's Family Guy cartoon series will be even less convinced by his first feature – basically a routine manchild/bromance story with one novel idea: Wahlberg has a magic talking teddy, which has grown up into an obnoxious party animal – thus creating relationship issues with shrewish girlfriend Kunis. It's all gags and no comedy. And if you're anything other than white, male and pop culture-literate, you'll find the humour at best patchy, at worst, downright nasty.
Sound Of My Voice (15)
(Zal Batmanglij, 2011, Us) Christopher Denham, Nicole Vicius, Brit Marling. 85 mins
As with Another Earth, co-writer Marling takes an unorthodox line through a familiar genre here. This time she's a spacey/scary cult leader who claims to be from the year 2054. A couple of investigative journalists get out of their depth taking her on.

Our favorite material girl Madonna has been touring the globe in support of her latest studio album, Mdna, and has posted an interesting behind-the-scenes clip of life on the road, titled “Inside the DNA of Mdna.”
Like her landmark documentary "Truth or Dare" and her "Reinvention Tour" doc "I'm Going To Tell You a Secret," the clip is in classic black and white. “I feel like my training wheels are being taken off before I’m ready,” she says just before her massive show in Rome (where she famously went on to moon the audience). “I feel like I’m going to crash a few times.”
The tour’s co-directors and choreographers appear just as stressed as Madge herself (if not more so, working to please one of music's most notoriously hard-working icons and all), and they all shout at plenty of dancers to get to their acts together.

Madonna has confirmed that her next Mdna single, "Turn Up the Radio," will be released August 5.
We've been saying all along that the simple, propulsive dance-pop anthem is one of our favorite Mdna tracks and may have better served the record, which debuted strong with 359,000 units moved (before Justin Bieber's Believe unseated it, Mdna had the year's top debut) before freefalling down the chart, as its lead single. It has "summer jam" written all over it.
As we reported earlier, Madonna was spotted shooting the video for "Radio" in Rome last month while in the city on her "Mdna Tour." On the set, M and her dancers were seen partying down to the synth-driven tune in a convertible.
The song will drop officially just a few days before Madonna hits St. Petersburg for a sure-to-be controversial concert in the Russian city. Earlier this year, lawmakers in the city passed...

I like having an easy comeback for that incessantly rebooted complaint: "Madonna's not talented!" For me, it strikes the same chord as "Women aren't funny," because in order to spew such a statement, you have to want to believe it, and you have to ignore obvious conflicting facts. And I don't know why you'd want to, because the formula for Madonna's success is simple and respectable: She's Elvis with brains.
She has all of The Pelvis' swagger, confrontational stage presence, carnal urgency, and underlying soulfulness. Unlike Elvis, she also has subversive wit, a compulsion for revitalizing her theatricality, and the kind of raunchy self-awareness that'd force Ed Sullivan to broadcast her just from the neck up, let alone the waist. To call Madonna's bravado and success "calculated" is -- as All Music Guide critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine once put it brilliantly -- "not to get Madonna." She's righteously in control,...

Mixing old and new hits throughout her four act set, Her Madgesty also made sure to impart words of wisdom throughout the show, telling the crowd:
"I chose to start my world tour in Israel for a very specific and important reason. You can't be a fan of mine and not want peace in the world. We all bleed the same color. If we can all rise above our egos and our titles and the names of our countries and our religions, and treat everyone around us with dignity and respect, then we are on the road to peace. If there is peace here in the Middle East, there can be peace in the whole world."

Madonna's Mdna tour kicked off Wednesday (May 30) in Tel Aviv, Israel and in grand Madonna tradition, the Material Girl is flaunting some fierce fashions for her latest globe-trotting stretch. Designers used include Jean Paul Gaultier, Jeremy Scott, Alexander Wang, Dolce & Gabbana, Fausto Puglisi and shoes from Prada and Miu Miu.
The show outfits include intimates from Madonna's Truth or Dare line and some throwbacks to 1990-era Madonna on her Blond Ambition world tour.
"It's a real journey from the first act to the fourth, and the way she constructs her shows is like a theater piece," costume designer and stylist Arianne Phillips tells Women's Wear Daily.
"This show is epic and bigger than anything she's done before. There are many more costume changes. We're taking 700 shoes on the road. Madonna changes outfits seven or eight times and the dancers change 10 to 15 times, depending on the dancer," adds Phillips.

Now hear this: I love Madonna. Always will. And that’s why I’m completely sensitive to her infuriating moments.
Recently, audio circulated of Madonna preparing for her new tour. In a short clip, she sings Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” as a mashup with her own, similar-sounding “Express Yourself,” as well as the pointed track “She’s Not Me.” Yes, it’s a cute and witty barb, one that’s meant as a gentle affront to Madonna’s heiress apparent Gaga, but I’m not laughing. I’m not exactly weeping either, but I’m more annoyed than titillated. It's just... not that funny? Or rather, too on the nose, petty, and not funny. For me, it’s of a piece with Madonna’s post-2005 career, a stretch where too much of her output and decision-making feels like the work of a canny assistant, someone who knows...

Perhaps once regarded as a quirky, whimsical visualist known for his eye-popping music videos (Bjork, Beck, White Stripes) and his often pop-surrealist indie films ("Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind," "The Science of Sleep"), French filmmaker Michel Gondry has really challenged the boilerplate concept of who he is as an artist in recent years. He's taken on a tentpole super-hero film ("The Green Hornet" starring Seth Rogen), made a stylistically unadorned and deeply personal, yet unsentimental documentary about his aunt ("The Thorn In The Side") and another superficially quirky mainstream comedy that's actually quite a sincere tribute to the joys of community ("Be Kind Rewind").
Community, fraternity and a sense of belonging are themes that go as far back as 2005's "Dave Chappelle's Block Party" (in of itself a communal event) and these social motifs are definitely present in his latest effort, "The We & The I," which recently premiered in...

Madonna has hit yet another bump along the road to celebrity fragrance domination (having already dominated the fields of, well, everything else). The mogul's Truth Or Dare fragrance is now the subject of legal action, as an Australian artist is accusing Madonna of ripping off his copyrighted logo.
Rj Williams, a skateboarder, gallerist and artist based in Sydney, has claimed Madonna ripped off his signature "M" on the packaging and bottle of Truth Or Dare. "I guess I want to protect what's mine," Williams told "Sunrise," a morning show in Australia.
He has been using his "M" for eight years and has trademarked it, although he tells "Sunrise," "If it's been in the public domain and I've sold it as art, as limited prints or as individual artworks, it is protected" even without an official trademark.
According to the Sunday Telegraph, Williams sent a legal letter to Madonna via her agent,...

Madonna has spoken about the controversy that surrounded her commercial for the Truth or Dare fragrance. ABC reportedly created a list of changes needed to be made to the advert to make it less suggestive. The network would then only air the commercial after 9pm even with the edits. "I don't understand. It was perfectly innocent," Madonna told Women's Wear Daily. "I just touch my cleavage once or something. "I think it's dreamy and sensual, and I think it perfectly conveys the feeling I'm trying to evoke with the perfume. It's a perfume for a woman." She launched her first perfume Truth or Dare at an event in New York last week, and is already working on another perfume. She also dreams of developing a male scent, reports contactmusic.com.

London, Apr 15: Madonna, who was at Macy's in New York for the launch of her fragrance "Truth Or Dare", has revealed that she was inspired by her mother.

Madonna was raising eyebrows yet again when she appeared in NYC yesterday at Macy's Herald Square to promote her new signature fragrance, Truth or Dare. How original. The 53-year-old singer made an appearance in a half-there, half-not black Dolce & Gabbana sheer illusion lace overlay dress with über-short corset-like bodice. Madge finished the look with... A fab pair of black peep-toe heels and her blond waves loose and oh so tousled. The dress is sooo beautiful, we just can't help but wish there was more of it and less of, well, Madonna—at least on the red carpet. We already know she's supertoned and surprisingly youthful from her fabulous Super Bowl half-time show. But...

We have to admit that we never would have guessed Coca-Cola would be trying to piggyback on the iconography of Madonna, but that seems to be the case with a new Diet Coke bottle design that sports a cone bra in a strange yet unmistakable ode to the Queen of Pop.
Diet Coke is changing things up with a new line of fashion-centric bottle designs, one of which happens to draw undeniable inspiration from Madonna’s notorious cone bra outfit from her 1990 "Blond Ambition" tour.
If you’re wondering how in the world this came into existence, famous French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier is the man responsible for creating Madge’s outfit – a mainstay in music-fashion pop culture – and was interestingly appointed as a creative director for Diet Coke.

The star turned up in a predictable black Dolce & Gabbana frock -- what did you think of her dress? Madonna's Truth or Dare fragrance marks the superstar's first foray into beauty, and she turned up at the launch event in Macy's in NYC wearing a sheer and lace black Dolce & Gabbana ensemble. While the look is consistent with the star's signature sense of style, I didn't think the sheer was appropriate on Madonna. Madonna can usually do no wrong in my book, but in this instance her wardrobe choice fell flat. While I would love to see her show off a different look, I also didn't think this particular style was the most flattering on the star. What do you think? Have you been eagerly awaiting your chance to smell like Madonna? You're in luck, Madge fans: the singer debuted her much hyped fragrance Truth or Dare at Macy's Herald Square on Thursday night.
Women's Wear Daily, who was there, reports that Macy's had presold to fans about 300 of the $151 fragrance kits, which included mini-bottles of the eau de parfum and body lotions, a T-shirt, a deluxe copy of Madonna’s new album, “Mdna,” and the 1991 “Truth or Dare” documentary on Blu-ray disc.
But fans in attendance reportedly didn't get to chat Madge up -- she was swept up in a frenzy of press interviews.
After months of some (cheesy?) promotions that included yellow flowers and a blindfold and a very cleavage-y commercial, Truth or Dare is finally available at the perfume counter (exclusive to Macy's in the U.S.)

What would Madonna smell like? Certainly not of hydrangeas. Maybe she smells of the collective anger and disdain of her exes (hi, Guy Ritchie.) Luckily, we don’t have to guess what tastes Queen Madge has because she’s letting us spritz and smell for ourselves now. Madonna launched her signature perfume Truth or Dare through the company Coty, at Macy’s Herald Square in New York City last night. The fragrance bottle was designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, Fyi. The singer wore a black, semi-sheer Dolce & Gabbana dress to the event, complete with a prominent cross. Very Like A Virgin.

It's hard to believe that the be all and end all of celebrity documentaries, Truth or Dare (1991) is already over 20 years old. Actual age aside, Truth or Dare is timeless not just because it captured one of the most famous women who has ever lived at the peak of her popularity, but because of how daringly it performed that capture. I'm sure it's impossible for anyone under 25 to imagine how shocking Madonna's behavior in the early 90s was. Believe it or not there was a time when the demistification of Celebrity was anathema to Hollywood.

Madonna: Truth or Dare was once the highest grossing documentary of all time, and twenty years after its release remains firmly in the top ten. It might be surprising that very few other documentaries about pop culture have resonated so much with audiences; then again, Madonna is no mere pop star, but rather, an icon. Truth or Dare came out in theaters at a time when she was the biggest pop star in the world; its release on Blu-ray, coincides with the release of her latest album, Mdna, which topped the charts in its first week. Very clever timing, Miramax. Very clever indeed.
