Tisa Farrow, an actor and sister of Mia Farrow, died in her sleep on Jan. 10 in Rutland, Vermont. She was 72.
Her sister Mia shared the news in a post on Instagram, writing: “If there is a Heaven, undoubtedly my beautiful sister Tisa is being welcomed there. She was the best of us – I have never met a more generous and loving person. She loved life and never complained. Ever. She was a nurse for 27 years, a wonderful sister to Steffi, Prudence and me, a devoted mother to Jason, who died in Iraq, Bridget and little grandson Kylor – the lights of her life.”
Farrow was born Theresa Magdalena Farrow in Los Angeles to actor Maureen O’Sullivan and film director John Farrow and was the youngest of seven siblings. She was the subject of a New York Times profile in 1970, in which she discussed her family connections in the entertainment industry.

Hulu has picked up to series two pilots, femme fatale thriller Reprisal and Elle Fanning-fronted period drama The Great. The digital platform announced the orders at TCA.
Reprisal comes from The Handmaid’s Tale exec producer Warren Littlefield. Written by Josh Corbin (StartUp), the show is a hyper-kinetic revenge tale following a relentless femme fatale who, after being left for dead, leads a vengeful campaign against a bombastic gang of gearheads.
The drama stars Abigail Spencer in the lead role alongside Rodrigo Santoro, Mena Massoud, Madison Davenport, Rhys Wakefield, David Dastmalchian, W. Earl Brown and Gilbert Owuor. The pilot was directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken (Off Season), who will exec produce the series, which is produced by A+E Studios and The Littlefield Company. Ann Johnson and Graham Littlefield serve as co-executive producers.
The series order comes after production on the pilot stalled in September as a result of Hurricane Florence.

Pearl Jam paid tribute to Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell Friday night at Seattle’s Safeco Field, with the band’s second Home Shows stadium gig also serving as an all-star celebration of the city’s grunge scene.
During the main set, Pearl Jam debuted their rendition of the obscure Cornell track “Missing,” from the late singer’s rare 1992 five-song Poncier Ep that culled his work from the Singles soundtrack; when Temple of the Dog reunited briefly in 2016, “Missing” became a surprise addition to the setlist.

These were some of Canada's top players battling it out on the big screen to a sold-out and very enthusiastic audience and the crowd loved it!
The top prize was $20K and a trip to compete in the Cwl Anaheim Open so the stakes were high! The final showdown between team Girg and SetToDestroyX was a heart racing match that lead to SetToDestroyX taking top prize! *cue confetti cannon*

Director Jim Jarmusch is currently having quite a busy year. He has two films set for release: “Paterson,” starring Adam Driver as a bus driver and poet living in New Jersey, and the documentary “Gimme Danger,” which recounts the history of Iggy Pop and The Stooges. Forming the band in the late 1960’s, Iggy Pop was a provocateur, performing half-naked and stage diving while confronting the audience with such classic numbers as “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” “Search and Destroy,” and “Raw Power.” Featuring brand-new interviews with Iggy Pop, Jarmusch looks back at one of the seminal American rock bands, their impact on the culture, and the circumstances of their reformation in 2003. Check out two exclusive images from the film below.

I didn’t know Christopher Walken had danced in so many movies but it’s a good thing he has otherwise we wouldn’t have this great supercut to show you. He had the moves in Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice video [watch it here] but put them all together with his movies and it’s something special.

The latest Call of Duty, Ghosts, has had a flurry of details revealed about the online component...
It's safe to say most would agree that the single player element of Call of Duty isn't the main drawing factor to Activision's flogged-horse Fps. Call of Duty has always been about the multiplayer, despite some great storytelling earlier on in the series' recent run. So, it makes perfect sense that Activision should hold an elaborate multiplayer reveal for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which has seen a host of new additions and refinements to its online action, including new game modes and reworked AI.
The new modes to grace the game include Cranked, which boosts your character for a limited time after a kill. This soon ends, however, unless you kill another foe before the time runs out.
Search and Rescue works similarly to the existing mode of Search and Destroy,...

Taking to the stage in Los Angeles today, Infinity Ward and Activision lifted the lid on all things Call of Duty: Ghosts. In doing so, it gave fans the first snippet of the game’s multiplayer, while also detailing some the additional features at present in the next iteration of the Fps franchise. With 30 new weapons, 20 added killstreaks and over 20,000 possible customisation options, Mark Rubin – the studio producer at Infinity Ward – has duly labelled Ghosts as the “biggest multiplayer overhaul since Modern Warfare.”
In order to stoke the fanbase’s excitement ahead of its November Release, the developer also released the first official multiplayer trailer, which you can feast your eyes on below:
While these aforementioned additions will have trigger-happy fans chomping at the bit, the biggest surprise was the confirmation that female soldiers will also be playable in the multiplayer component of Call of Duty: Ghosts – a first for the illustrious franchise.

"Which movies did you enjoy the most at Sundance, Debbie?" is a line I've heard often since returning from Park City. Despite several narrative favorites, the subcategory that really stood out was music documentaries. Two of these films will screen at SXSW next month: Twenty Feet from Stardom, the first film acquired at Sundance 2013, and Sound City, produced and directed by David Grohl of The Foo Fighters and Nirvana.
The festival opened with Twenty Feet From Stardom wowing audiences onscreen and later, offscreen with special performances. Producer/director Morgan Neville is no stranger to music docs, having directed several for television including Brian Wilson: A Beach Boy's Tale, Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock'n'Roll, Johnny Cash's America, Search and Destroy: Iggy and the Stooges' Raw Power, and several American Masters and Biography series spotlighting music icons.

A news item about a tragedy in Detroit got them started, and by the time they were finished—three years and 1,000 hours of footage later—co-directors Tom Putnam and Brenna Sanchez found that their firefighting documentary had become something bigger than they’d imagined. Burn follows a group of firefighters as they try to contain blazes in a city with an endless roster of buildings left vacant amidst an economic collapse (a topic dealt with in Detropia and several other documentaries). Detroit’s population, as the film notes, is less than half of what it was 60 years ago, and many of those abandoned houses and former businesses have become firetraps. The film is built on vivid scenes that depict the danger facing fire crews from one shift to the next, but Burn also has broader implications, raising a host of issues about the changing texture of 21st century American cities...

Directors who plug their favorite songs into films is nothing new, but Wes Anderson is one of the few -- along with Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson and Cameron Crowe -- who have turned the movie soundtrack into an art form.
From the underappreciated Rolling Stones song "2000 Man" in Anderson's debut feature "Bottle Rocket" to a Brazilian acoustic guitarist playing David Bowie tunes in the oceanography adventure movie "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou," Anderson's musical choices for his films are as patiently awaited by his fans as the films themselves.
Though the tweed-stylin' director has stated that his new movie, "Moonrise Kingdom" (which opens May 25), "has a big musical element, but there are not really songs in it," his previous films are a master class in how to use songs in movies. Here are 11 of our favorites.

In this weekend's "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," Jeremy Renner plays an overqualified Imf analyst; but it wasn't long ago that the Academy Award nominee was making his film debut as an underachieving student in the long-forgotten '90s comedy "National Lampoon's Senior Trip."
Renner's interest in acting blossomed relatively late, when the California native decided to pursue a double major in theater and psychology at Modesto Junior College. Shortly after graduation, Renner made his way to Los Angeles to parlay his passion into a career. His first opportunity came via the play "Search and Destroy," which earned him early buzz from critics. From there, Renner jumped into his first film role at the tender age of 24 with "Senior Trip."
In the critically reviled 1995 teen comedy, Renner costars as Mark "Dags" D'Agastino, a perpetually stoned, flannel-wearing high school senior who, along with his obnoxious classmates, heads to Washington D.C.

New York — For a band that, over the past three years, has been no stranger to adversity — everything from battles with their label to scraps with censors and the occasional stage collapse — 30 Seconds to Mars had probably never had to deal with the kind of trouble that occurred during the encore of their record-setting show Wednesday night in New York.
During the crashing crescendo of "Kings and Queens," a female fan was crushed against a barricade and required immediate medical assistance. "Queens" was the final song of the band's set, which was preceded by a lengthy presentation from the folks at Guinness World Records, who honored 30Stm for Most Shows Played During An Album Cycle (309 was Guinness' count). When the Call of Duty franchise decided to veer away from its norm, creating a modern day Fps in the process back in 2007, many questioned its decision. However, as Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare opened to both critical and consumer acclaim, sales spoke for themselves and a dominating franchise was born. Since it's release - known to fans as COD4 - the series has dominated the market each year, breaking record after record falling its huge demand.

In another senseless act of violence, the BBC reports that the Sony/Pias distribution centre warehouse in Enfield, North London was sadly destroyed in the riots in London on 8th August. Major labels such as Sony had their stock destroyed, but perhaps more disturbing is to hear of all the independent labels that have been affected. This will be this devastating to them and their artists who have worked so hard to build strong businesses around good independent music. Pias are the biggest distributor of indie labels in the UK. and they also had most of their stock destroyed.

Call of Duty: Black Ops has been given an update on PlayStation 3 and PC. Released on Xbox 360 earlier this month, Title Update 11 focuses on security updates for the game's multiplayer mode. The update also prepares both editions for the 'Annihilation' map pack, which is available tomorrow. Chicago – Clearly, Activision and Treyarch aren’t satisfied with dominating the shooter market for only part of the year; they want the entire calendar. How else to explain the most ambitious Dlc expansion plan in console shooter gaming history? “First Strike” wasn’t enough and neither was “Escalation.” Now comes “Annihilation,” another map pack with four new arenas in which to play and a new zombie adventure. Available exclusively for the Xbox for now, “Call of Duty: Black Ops” has expanded yet again and the pack features at least two maps you really must play.
Video Game Rating: 4.5/5.0
“Call of Duty: Black Ops — First Strike,” which was released in February, still contains my favorite expansion maps and if you’re only going to buy one, it’s the one. But you should save up for “Escalation” for the best zombie adventure (“Call of the Dead” with George A. Romero, Sarah Michelle Gellar,...

Google and Skyhook have been tussling over IP, and in a court filing we've learned a surprising insight into Google's protective actions over Android. Looks like Facebook didn't need to bother with its smear campaign.
Google and Skyhook have been tussling over IP, but in a court filing we've gained a surprising insight into Google's protective actions over Android. "Open" just ain't the word.
Last year Skyhook sued Google for interfering with its business and infringing on IP it owned. Skyhook is one of the clever techs behind Wi-Fi approximated geolocation (one tech that makes A-gps on smartphones so powerful). Skyhook basically alleged that Google strong-armed its smartphone makers into using Google's own systems for geolocation protocols in Android, bullying Skyhook out of the market to the tune of millions in lost revenues and stealing its IP. This story by itself is fascinating, given the spotlight thrown on smartphone geolocation...

Zack Snyder, as the filmmaker tends to do, has split the Owf audience (and indeed our own writers) firmly down the middle over his latest movie Sucker Punch but one thing that we can all agree on is that it has a kick-ass soundtrack.
We previewed it some weeks back and now I am delighted to say we have three copies of “Sucker Punch: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” that’s out now, to give away to our lucky readers, courtesy of Sony Music.
The audio companion to the film director Zack Snyder describes as “Alice In Wonderland with machine guns” has taken over two years to create, and will delight filmgoers and music fans of all generations.
Fascinatingly reworked versions of classic songs illuminate the soundtrack, with the film’s star Emily Browning covering “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” (Eurythmics), “Where Is My Mind?” (The Pixies), and...

The Sucker Punch soundtrack. Describing his new project Sucker Punch as Alice In Wonderland with Machine Guns might have been a good way of securing funding, and might attract chuckling late-teen boys to the theatres, but graphic-fancying CGI automaton Zack Snyder might just as equally have suggested Terminator 2 with cartoon owls, or Citizen Kane with the Ed 209, such is the wisdom of melding a beautifully functioning classic with a completely incongruous element. If only he’d come up with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, then at least he’d have a best-selling book on his hands. Just as well that Snyder’s snappy-cum-brainless one-liner stands empirically for nothing, the similarities of Sucker Punch with Lewis Carroll’s classic limited to a female protagonist entering a sort of fantasy world, and the dissimilarities being giant robots, CGI everything, massive explosions, every female character looking like an auditioning Playboy bunny, and everything...

Sucker Punch
Directed by: Zack Snyder
Cast: Emily Browning, Oscar Isaac, Carla Gugino, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Scott Glenn
Running Time: 1 hr 50 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: March 25, 2011
Plot: A young woman (Browning) seeks to escape the insane asylum she’s locked up in by exploring violent fantasies, featuring her friends (Hudgens, Chung, Cornish, Malone).
Who’S It For?: While ladies are indeed kicking butt, the empowerment of Sucker Punch is reserved for the fanboys, who get to watch Snyder toy with more action figures (or in this case, scantily clad dolls). The same crowd that ate up the silly 300 will enjoy this very much, whether they’re aware or not of Snyder working overtime to reverse that movie’s homoeroticism.
Expectations: “Slow-mo” Snyder has gotten fairly predictable with his style, which is at least unmatched as of now (no one loves slow motion as...

Music is an important aspect of any movie, but in "Sucker Punch," it's absolutely essential.
Director Zack Snyder sat down with MTV News to chat about his latest action epic, which lands in theaters today (March 25), and he discussed the integral role that music plays in the film. As you're likely already aware, "Sucker Punch" deals in multiple levels of reality, and when our heroes slip into that combat space, they do so through a combination of music and Baby Doll's mesmerizing dancing.
"I think the germ of the movie came from when we were talking about this sort of musical number I wanted to do," Snyder explained of the music of "Sucker Punch." "I thought it'd be cool to use this musical number as the spine of the movie, the spine of an action sequence, and then getting in and out of it would be, like, the music...

If you're a fan of director Zack Snyder ("Watchmen," "300"), you know that subtlety isn't exactly his strong suit. Going by the soundtrack to his new action/fantasy/teenage boy fantasy "Sucker Punch," this extends to every aspect of the process.
The film's soundtrack is comprised exclusively of covers of classic songs, including Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit," The Smiths'' "Where Is My Mind" and The Stooges' "Search and Destroy." While no song matches the intensity of the original, Snyder reworked many of the selections to avoid the original sin of copying the source material wholesale.
So we get Eurhythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" turned into a jazzy noir number sung by "Sucker Punch" star herself Emily Browning. The cold, detached singing of Annie Lennox have transformed into the chanteuse vocals favored by singers like Julee Cruise in all those David Lynch films. Browning also appears on a cover...

The audio companion to the film director Zack Snyder describes as “Alice In Wonderland with machine guns” has taken over two years to create, and saw Snyder (Watchmen, 300), collaborate with Grammy-nominated composer and music director Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge!) and composer Tyler Bates (Watchmen, 300, Californication) to select the collection of songs featured on the soundtrack, which play an integral role in the film.

Zack Snyder has gained a reputation for striking and stylish visuals in films such as 300, Watchmen and Legend of the Guardians - and now he's also hoping to stimulate us on an auditory level.
A host of classic songs have been "wildly reimagined" for the soundtrack album for Snyder's fantasy adventure Sucker Punch, some of them performed by the film's stars.
Sucker Punch: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will hit stores on March 28, 2011.

Releasing March 22nd, a few days before the film is released, the Sucker Punch soundtrack features some interesting songs and covers. I think the press release says it all, actually:

Whether or not Sucker Punch turns out to be a watchable movie – and certainly myself and Simon have expressed & debated our doubts about that issue to some length this week – there’s a good chance it will at least have a pleasurable soundtrack.
Just like Zack Snyder’s meticulously hand-chosen track list for Watchmen included an eclectic taste of iconic tracks from all kind of music era’s and genres, Snyder has once again choose a wide selection of recognisable tunes for his latest action fantasy, many of which are covers sung by the cast themselves.
Lead Emily Browning seems to be the busiest as she has renditions of The Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams’, The Smiths’ ‘Asleep’ and ‘Where Is My Mind?’ by the Pixies, though cast members Carla Gugino and Oscar Isaac also cover Roxy Music’s ‘Love is the Drug’.

Here are some details on the soundtrack for Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch. I am super excited to see this when it arrives in theaters on March 25! Not only does the movie look amazing it is going to sound amazing as well (both sound fx wise and musically).
The disc features music from Queen, Björk, as well as three tracks featuring Emily Browning. Chat restrictions have been tweaked for Call Of Duty: Black Ops. Online director Dan Hunting has confirmed that similar to Modern Warfare 2, party chat will be banned for certain modes. "We have that same restriction in certain playlists where they can use party chat to exploit the game mode," he told VideoGamer.com. "For example, Search and Destroy. Search and Destroy is one of those cases where it's really critical that you don't share information (more)...

North by Northeast 2010 is upon us! That means I have ringing ears and a sore ass ahead of me, thanks to the over 600 live music acts and an ample assortment of music themed documentaries that are taking Toronto by storm this week. This is simply a list of things I plan on checking out during Nxne, things that I think my fellow dorks will appreciate. I’ll admit that I’m not as up on new music as some, if you want the real scoop on up-and-coming bands at Nxne then be sure to read Jessica’s Nxne 2010 picks.
We’re barely scratching the surface here though, there is so much to see and do at North by Northeast. Be sure to check out the official Nxne 2010 website for ticket info and the full schedule or just go buy a wristband and get out there and see what you can!

The upcoming action flick The Losers just debuted six new character-centric posters. I like Zoe Saldana’s the best, though that might have something to do with her being more attractive than any of the guys. A quick rundown:
“Zoe Saldana is Aisha: Search and Destroy”
“Jeffrey Dean Morgan is Clay: Operational Control”
“Oscar Jaenada is Cougar: Long-Range Eliminations”
“Chris Evans is Jensen: Comms and Tech”
“Columbus Short is Pooch: Transpo and Heavy Weps”
“Idris Elba is Roque: Demo and Tactical”
…And the big round-up poster, which also features Jason Patric as the villainous Max:
This movie looks sillier and sillier by the day (a conclusion I came to while typing “Pooch: Transpo and Heavy Weps”), but I’m still holding out hope that it’ll be entertaining. Lighthearted action, humor — all it needs is for the story to make coherent sense. But unfortunately that’s where a lot of similar movies fail.

New York — It opened with a Phish show, nearly exploded into a (very well-heeled) proto-punk riot, got giddy on a fix of sunshiny Swedish pop, and finally wrapped up with a '50's-tinged tribute. It was the 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, back in NYC after a one-year sojourn in Cleveland (where the titular hall actually exists). And while it may have been lacking the star power of previous years' ceremonies — Eminem and Metallica in 2009, Madonna and Justin Timberlake in '08 — it certainly showcased the breadth and depth of this thing we call rock music.

Genesis has the invisible touch. Not so much Iggy Pop and the Stooges. After being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Waldorf Astoria in New York tonight, Iggy stayed true to form, ripping off his shirt and tearing into "Search and Destroy," his 62-year-old abs rippling as always. "Let's f--k it up!" the Michigan-born, seemingly moon-bred rocker shouted as he took the stage after Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong did the induction honors. "Come on, you're not too rich to be cool!" Pop urged the largely staid, tuxedo-clad crowd, eventually getting Armstrong and Eddie Vedder to join him onstage for "I Wanna Be Your Dog." Phish performed...

Band's new LP is massive and shiny, but also cold and empty, in Bigger Than the Sound.

Here is the best way I can describe 30 Seconds To Mars' This Is War, an album born out of rather intense struggles and big ideas, one loaded with icy synths and screaming falcons, epic chorales and windswept sonic expanses (and the occasional Tibetan Monk): Listening to it is like being inside a gigantic silver weather balloon, one ascending into the upper reaches of the stratosphere. It is massive and shiny and beautiful, but also cold and empty.
That's not meant to be a slight — actually the opposite. War is a shimmering epic of an album, to be certain, but as is often the case when big rock bands strive to go even bigger with their sound (the most obvious example I can think...
