Violence & Gore

Although most violence occured offscreen, but its graphic blood and injuries are shown.

Hannibal escapes from his cuffs and kills two of the wardens. He bites one in the face and he is seen with a chunk of flesh in his mouth and blood dribbling down his chin. The man is then seen with a large gory wound in his mouth. Hannibal then sprays a full can of mace in his face.

The other warden is beaten to death with a night stick. This is off-screen, but blood is seen spalttering on Hannibal's body. Then the aftermath is shown, which shows the guard covered in blood and blood all over Hannibal and his cell.

Hannibal picks up a small knife and walks toward another warden menacingly. Nothing is seen

S.W.A.T break into a room and find a man tied to the outside of Hannibal's cell and he has a cloth around his arms and resembles a crucifixion. His stomach had been cut open and his innards are showing.

A man is shot several times; blood sprays. He falls and then vomits blood.

A man peels a piece of bloody flesh off his face.

A woman is beaten in the back of a van.

A man is shot in the leg; a bullet hole is seen.

A body is seen covered in blood.

Profanity

Scenes between Starling and Lecter are very emotionally intense; he questions her about her childhood.

The final scene is particularly suspenseful.

Some of the inmates can make the audience uncomfortable, such as Miggs.

The whole nature of the film is very dark and scary, due to the fact that it's a crime film and one of the main characters is a cannibal.
