Twenty-five years. That's how long Olivia Benson has come into our homes and hearts on Law & Order: Svu.
We've grown with her, been inspired by her, and cried with her. She almost feels like a friend, and why wouldn't she?
After spending a quarter of a century together, Olivia Benson is as familiar as she is iconic and deserves to be celebrated.
It was nearly impossible to whittle the list of memorable Olivia Benson moments to just 25. She shines in every episode, and it's been exciting to accompany her on her journey from doe-eyed newbie to tough-as-nails captain of the Svu unit.
Still, every season had at least one moment that stood out.
Law & Order: Svu has evolved over the years, as has Benson, but it's easy to forget how different things were when the series first began.
Benson used to have a different hairstyle every season -- remember that?...

CBS released its Fall 2024 schedule and Big Brother 26 is not on the schedule. While the hit reality TV competition series is a summer show, it often flows into the fall months and this year that will not happen.
Here is what that means for fans of the popular reality TV show.
Big Brother 26 To End Early In 2024?
In 2023, Big Brother 25 started on August 2, 2023, and its finale came on November 9 of that same year. That means that the show had its games and competition for just over three months. Fans could watch CBS and follow the main storylines and games and tune in on Paramount+ for the live feeds of the house.
However, it looks like things won’t stretch out for that long with Big Brother 26. There are no episodes of Big Brother 26 scheduled in October or November this year. That means that the show could only last for a couple of months at most,...

She has been in good company with Ice-t and Christopher Meloni, who exited after Season 12 only to come back later in the series. Law & Order Svu star Mariska Hargitay has shown no signs of slowing down after 25 years of playing Olivia Benson. But playing a character as long as Hargitay has runs a risk of being typecast. It was a risk, however, that Hargitay didn’t seem to care about.

Not even Hargitay would’ve imagined she’d end up playing Svu detective Olivia Benson for so long. The character has changed Hargitay’s life in more ways than one, giving her the kind of acting career she strived to achieve for decades. Then Olivia Benson would go on to motivate Hargitay’s activism, inspiring her to create the Joyful Heart Foundation. Joyful Heart would go on to help real victims of sexual and domestic abuse, allowing Hargitay to personally reach real-life people who needed help.

Law & Order Svu star Mariska Hargitay took a break from solving dark crimes on her hit show when she appeared in The Love Guru. The feature was a lighthearted comedy based on a character created by Mike Myers. Myers and Hargitay would eventually become good friends, which led to Hargitay’s involvement in the film.
But when they met each other for the first time, Hargitay didn’t know what to make of Myers.

Myers’ The Love Guru was based on a character the comedian came up with in the 90s named Guru Pitka. Before the character’s cinematic debut, the Austin Powers star spent much of his time workshopping and refining the persona on the comedy circuit. Hargitay once confided that she became a part of the Guru’s comedic act before the pair had even officially met.

What now?
The Skydance Media deal for National Amusements appears to be dead, with the company declining to extend its exclusive negotiating window, and sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that controlling shareholder Shari Redstone is cool on the $26 billion offer from Sony Pictures and Apollo Global Management — a deal that would lead to the breakup of the empire her father built. While it is possible that Paramount’s independent board committee believes that regulatory concerns presented by the Apollo-Sony offer can be overlooked and recommends that deal, it looks like an increasingly challenged proposition.
For the foreseeable future, it appears, the company is in the hands of the three-man committee made up of CBS chief George Cheeks, Paramount Pictures’ Brian Robbins and Chris McCarthy, head of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks. Paramount stock dropped 7 percent to $12.89 at the close in the wake of the news.

Mariska Hargitay is opening up about her relationship with Christopher Meloni, that teased kiss on Law & Order: Svu that didn’t happen, Kelli Giddish‘s exit, and more.
Of her chemistry with Christopher, Mariska shared, “Our chemistry is undeniable. It’s just the way it is,” she says.

She then brought up that teaser, which showed Benson holding Stabler’s face and appeared like they would end up kissing. However, when that episode aired, the face hold wasn’t even featured.
Why was it shown in a teaser and not in the show? Mariska said, “To be honest with you, Chris and I thought it should go one way and the powers that be didn’t, so it got changed at the last minute, that near kiss. Obviously Dick [Wolf] gets final say. It’s his show and he didn’t want that.

Ice-t is one of Svu‘s veterans, having been a part of the show from the beginning. Acting wasn’t anything new to Ice-t when he was first approached for the project. But the series’ creator Dick Wolf was concerned Ice-t would have issues with playing a police officer.
“When Dick Wolf put me on the show, he said, ‘Ice, you don’t like the cops, do you?’ I said, ‘Not all of ‘em. I ain’t got problems. Some of ‘em are cool.

Law & Order Svu welcomed Kelli Giddish onto the team full-time in its thirteenth season. Giddish would remain on the show for over a decade until her recent departure in 2022. Her partner Mariska Hargitay was especially saddened by the news, as she developed a close bond with Giddish over the years.

Hargitay had seen many Law & Order stars come and go over the years. She even outlasted the show’s original lead Chris Meloni, who left the series for a decade before returning in Organized Crime. Giddish was another co-star she had to say goodbye to after their long journey together. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hargitay touched on what Giddish meant to her.

Harvey Weinstein – Verdict Overturned
Harvey Weinstein’s guilty verdict in his 2018 rape case in New York has been overturned and thrown out.
Weinstein’s lawyer argued that the judge in the case didn’t give Harvey a fair shake, and made it nearly impossible for a jury to come to a fair verdict.
The Supreme Court unfortunately agreed that Weinstein’s character was put on trial, rather than cold hard facts in the rape case.

Law & Order: Organized Crime fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. According to Deadline, the series is finalizing a 10-episode renewal deal... with one significant change.
Instead of airing on NBC, Law & Order: Organized Crime will stream exclusively on Peacock, making it the first primetime series NBC has moved exclusively to its sister service.
This is excellent news for Organized Crime, which may work better as a streaming-only series for several reasons.
The deal is only for ten episodes, but don't be too disappointed. While that might be terrible news for a broadcast show, many streaming-only series have eight to ten episodes per season.
Besides, if fans flock to Peacock and burn through those ten episodes in record numbers, NBC/Peacock could decide to order more episodes. [Note: We don't know yet if all ten episodes will be available at once for binge-watching or whether they will be released on some schedule.]
A new season is better than nothing, so we don't want to look gift horses in the mouth, especially after...

The newest ‘Law & Order’ spin-off has seen consistently better ratings on Peacock than on linear NBC to this point.
Eliot Stabler is coming back for at least one more ride. The popular character portrayed for 25 years by actor Christopher Meloni is the star of “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” the latest member of the franchise originated by Dick Wolf. “Organized Crime” was stuck in limbo while waiting to find out if it would be renewed for a fifth season or not, but it appears that NBCUniversal has finally made a decision. A new report from Deadline indicates that “Law & Order: Organized Crime” will move to Peacock for an abbreviated Season 5, and if it’s successful, could return for more episodes.
Key Facts: Season 5 of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” will consist of 10 episodes. The show has consistently performed better on Peacock than it has on linear NBC. Peacock...

The last NBC drama series whose fate had not been determined, Law & Order: Organized Crime, is finalizing a deal for a 10-episode Season 5 renewal, sources said. As Deadline reported exclusively this month, the Wolf Entertainment series will be relocating from NBC to sibling Peacock, with the new season streaming exclusively on the platform.

The NBCUniversal streamer continues to make small, but steady climbs in its quest for streaming survival.
Comcast’s flagship streaming service Peacock has been on a slow but steady climb since launching in 2020. While still amongst the smaller platforms from major media companies, it is no longer an easily ignored also-ran, seemingly fighting for scraps as the streaming world threatened to leave it behind. Now boasting a robust offering of live sports, hit movies, and increasingly compelling original series, following the first quarter of 2024, Peacock added 3 million new customers to cap its year-over-year growth at 55%. During the same period in 2023, the streamer reported having 22 million paying customers, now that total sits at 34 million.
Key Details: Peacock added 3 million customers in Q1 and 12 million year-over-year. The streamer brought in $1.1 billion in revenue during the first three months of 2024. However, it is still operating at a $639M quarterly loss. Sign Up $5.99+ / month peacocktv.

Law & Order has been one of NBC's flagship programs for 23 years despite a ten-year hiatus, but is the formula that made it famous outdated now?
The original series pioneered the idea of "ripped from the headlines" stories and a format dedicating half of each episode to the police investigation and the other half to the arrestee's trial. This proved to be so popular that it spawned a ton of sequels and spinoffs.
Law & Order: Svu is the most successful, having just been renewed for a 26th season. However, Svu doesn't follow the format of its parent show most of the time, often dedicating 90% or more of the hour to the police investigation -- should its parent series follow suit?

Crime procedurals have thrived on primetime television for over two decades, and several of them are still streamed frequently.
Popular shows like Law & Order, Law & Order: Svu, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and NCIS have existed since the 1990s and the 2000s. Due to their popularity, these series have created multiple spinoffs and revivals.
Almost every network has at least one crime procedural on their primetime TV lineup. NBC has an entire night devoted to the Law & Order Universe. CBS has more procedurals than we can count, and they recently added another with Tracker, led by Justin Hartley.
While crime procedurals are still one of the most-watched genres, has the primetime TV lineup become overstuffed with them?
Let's discuss why some of them have thrived for years and the potential upcoming scheduling issues.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.

The new creature feature from Universal will stream on Peacock, but how long will it take to arrive?
We’re only halfway to Halloween 2024, but Universal Studios isn’t reserving all of its horror films for Spooky Season. Its latest scary movie is titled simply “Abigail,” but fans will be jumping out of their seats plenty often when the movie debuts in theaters on Friday, April 19, despite the short moniker.
“Abigail” has compiled an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics so far. As a Universal film, “Abigail” will stream on Peacock when it leaves theaters. Universal horror releases like “The Black Phone” and “M3GAN” suggest it won’t take long for “Abigail” to stream on Peacock, but more recent releases tell a different tale.
