The Roost Podcast Network, servicing podcasts including This Past Weekend with Theo Von, has a new owner.
Talent management company Night, which represents YouTubers such as MrBeast, has acquired the company from Warner Bros. Discovery.
The studio shut down Rooster Teeth, which was part of Warner Bros. Discovery Global Streaming & Interactive Entertainment, earlier this year. At the time, Rooster Teeth general manager Jordan Levin said that Wbd was evaluating “outside interest in acquiring this growing asset”.
Night will be retaining a majority of the team, including A.J. Feliciano, Head of The Roost Podcast Network.
The Roost receives over 350 million views and 20 million monthly audio downloads. It features 47 podcasts including H3 Podcast, The Phil DeFranco Show, Flashback with Smosh, The Yard and Jeff FM.
Night was founded by Reed Duchscher, a former sports agent turned talent manager, in 2015.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Rivers was the oldest of three kids. He once noted in an interview with Our Lives magazine that “both my parents loved old films, so they really cultivated and encouraged this in me.”
Rivers was a winning contestant on the syndicated program The Movie Game while he was attending the all-boys Verbum Dei Jesuit High School in L.A., then came to Milwaukee in 1972 and graduated from Marquette University, where he majored in broadcasting.

It’s a case of one score to rule them all, as Howard Shore’s stirring epic soundtrack for The Lord of the Rings trilogy was voted the U.K.’s favorite movie music.
Shore’s score for the Rings film, which has won three Academy Awards, three Golden Globes and four Grammys, came out ahead of some of the greatest and most recognizable soundtracks of all time, including John Williams’ music for Schindler’s List and Star Wars, which came second and third respectively.
The list of the top 100 film scores was compiled by popular U.K. radio station Classic FM, as part of their annual Movie Music Hall of Fame. More than 10,000 people voted for this year’s edition and the winner was revealed on Sunday by Jonathan Ross, the former presenter of the BBC’s Film program.

The Beatles often experimented with recording techniques to improve their sound. However, the band never perfected the new music technologies that were emerging then, leading to some sloppy versions of their songs. One Beatles song, in particular, got “destroyed” by the constant tampering of it, according to John Lennon.

“Revolution” was released in 1968 as the B-side to “Hey Jude.” While the song got Lennon’s political views out there, it wasn’t the version he liked. The track has been released multiple times with different variations. “Revolution 1” was recorded before the official release and is noticeably slower. Paul McCartney and George Harrison believed “Revolution 1” was too slow to be a single, so they released a faster version.

Norman Lloyd, the Emmy-nominated veteran actor, producer and director whose career ranged from Orson Welles’ Mercury Theatre, Alfred Hitchcock’s Saboteur and acting with Charlie Chaplin in Limelight to St. Elsewhere, Dead Poets Society and The Practice, died May 10 in his sleep at his Los Angeles home. He was 106. A family friend confirmed the news to Deadline.
During one of the famous Lloyd birthday celebrations, Karl Malden said, “Norman Lloyd is the history of our business.”
Blessed with a commanding voice, Lloyd’s acting career dates back to Orson Welles’ Mercury Theatre troupe, of which he was the last surviving member. He was part of its first production — 1937 a modern-dress adaptation of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar on Broadway titled Caesar.
He originally was cast in Welles’ epic Citizen Kane and accompanied the director to Hollywood. When the filmmaker ran into his proverbial budget problems, Lloyd quit the project and returned to New York,...

Above: Alternative UK poster for Parasite. Art by Andrew Bannister.Whether or not you think it’s the best film of the year, I think by now it’s safe to say that Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is the most significant film of last year and probably this year too. From its Palme d’Or win to its historic Oscar nominations, Parasite is to 2019 what Pulp Fiction was to 1994: an impossible-to-ignore global phenomenon and a brilliant work of art to boot. All great works of art inspire more great art and Parasite has been a gloriously fecund host for poster designers to feed off, inspiring ingenious commercial campaigns and fan art alike. The original Korean poster—the first glimpse any of us got of this soon-to-be sensation back last April—was designed by Kim Sang-man, a film director (Midnight FM), art director (Joint Security Area), and composer, who started...

My summer has been filled with deep loss. My younger brother David succumbed to major injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on June 1st. Along with the comfort and love from my family and friends, music was a necessary daily elixir. Many nights I would listen to vinyl in my mother's home, albums I'd left there years ago, or a handful of new/used pieces I picked up at one of my favorite Akron, Oh vinyl shops. The ritual of cleaning each piece, placing it on the turntable, dropping the needle, studying the album art, reading the liner notes... it was a much-needed distraction. Here are three new pieces that have aided me in my latest life's journey.

Belladonna Of Sadness
Release Date: Coming Soon from Cinelicious Pics Written By: Yoshiyuki Fukuda, Jules Michelet (novel), Eiichi Yamamoto Directed By: Eiichi Yamamoto Starring: Tatsuya Nakadai, Katsuyuki Itô, Aiko Nagayama
When I heard about Cinelicious Pics’ plans to restore and release the long lost 1973 anime Belladonna Of Sadness, I was well and truly excited. I’m a huge aficionado of 70s-era anime, and this baby has been a “holy grail” of sorts for folks like me for a good many years — much desired but damn near impossible to obtain. So that being said, and with those expectations set freakin’ sky high, let’s see if ol’ Belladonna was worth the wait or will it just fill me with sadness of my own!
Belladonna Of Sadness, based loosely (and by that I mean hardly at all) on the French novel La Sorcière by Jules Michelet, tells the brutal tale of Jeanne,...

There aren’t a great many artists big enough to help the top grossing nightclub in the world celebrate its seventh anniversary. Hip-hop and bass music icon Diplo fits the bill, though, and he’s uploaded his two-and-a-half-hour set from the March 21st celebration to his SoundCloud account for everyone who wasn’t able to attend.
Before going in, though, it’s worth noting that this was one of Diplo’s more mainstream-friendly performances. Las Vegas nightclubs go for a very specific sound – so where his recent Diplo and Friends set showcased his expert ear for hip-hop, his Xs performance predominantly consisted of big room house and ringtone rap edits.
That said, Diplo‘s DJ set at Xs Las Vegas’ 7th anniversary celebration certainly still had its gems. He was nice enough to scrawl out a tracklist as well, so if you hear something you like then find it by...

Dark Sky Films has brought us films as diverse and bold as The House Of The Devil, The Innkeepers, and Stake Land. Joining that esteemed company is the recently released (and now available on DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD) Convergence, in which a cop (Clayne Crawford, Swimfan, Jericho) finds himself trapped in limbo and must find redemption before he can escape. With support from veteran actors Ethan Embry (Vacancy, Once Upon A Time) and Mykelti Williamson (The Final Destination, Forrest Gump), the nightmarish action-horror film deals with weighty themes of religious fanaticism and atonement. We spoke with writer-director Drew Hall about his inspiration, beliefs, and symbolism.
Famous Monsters. Convergence is very timely since we’re in a period of religious extremism. Is that what prompted you to write the film?

Over at my other haunt, Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule, there is currently posted, in honor of Halloween week, what I think are two very special treats (and possibly tricks). The first is a very challenging frame grab quiz in which readers are asked to guess the titles of 31 movies based on eerie images that may or may not be so easy to identify. The other is a special edition of the traditional interview-type quiz I occasionally come up devoted entirely to the harrowing world of horror. It features the usual batch of questions for which there are no wrong answers, only your answers, which makes it much more fun to fill out and especially to read. As usual, it’s taking me a while to get around to submitting my own answers to the quiz, but in the creeping shadow of the approaching holiday I thought I...

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, musical artists like Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, Toto, Hall and Oates, and dozens of others regularly popped up on each other's records, creating a golden era of smooth-music collaboration.

In 12 short but memorable episodes — first via the the short-film series Channel 101 and then online — Jd Ryznar, Hunter Stair, Dave Lyons, Lane Farnham and their friends redefined an era and coined a term for the sultry croonings of McDonald, Fagen, et al.

For L.A.-based stringed instrument maestro David Lindley, the more obscure the stringed-instrument, the more inspiring. Employing a half-dozen guitar-like instruments (several custom-made Weissenborns, a black top Irish bouzouki with added frets, electric oud) in various open tunings, he effortless finger-picks his way into your head and heart. And his droll between-songs banter is both hilarious and informative. Having been employed by some of the world's most-beloved singer/songwriters, such as Jackson Browne and Warren Zevon, to name just two of my favorites, has definitely served his stage presence and chops quite effectively.
Starting the set with an absolutely brilliant rewrite of his much-beloved cover and FM-staple "Mercury Blues" from his must-own ablum El Rayo-x while morphing lyrics from "Tuna Fish Blues" -- the obvious poisoning of our ocean fish and water -- David had our rapt attention. Two Warren Zevon tunes also cut to the bone. Moreover,...

As we rightfully celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' rockin'-vasion of America, it is also worth noting the 40th anniversaries of progressive rock albums released in 1974 -- a banner year for the genre.
In alphabetical rather than chronological order, here is just a short list, along with links to a representative composition from each album.
Enjoy!
Apostrophe (Frank Zappa)
Although Zappa had been "at it" since 1966 -- as one of the earliest progenitors of progressive rock -- and although he had already put out over a dozen important albums, Apostrophe (and the immediately prior album, Over-Nite Sensation) arguably brought him to the masses through his cross-over "hit," "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow," which, despite its length, received regular airplay on FM stations. It didn't hurt that the album also included two of his funniest, most fun songs, "Cozmik Debris" and "Stinkfoot."

It was Buckingham’s Palace on Friday night at The O2…
My tickets were booked 228 days before the gig. The first two shows having sold out within 10 minutes, it was lucky that an extra date was released that afternoon. These O2 gigs were highly sought-after and it was a privilege to be there. The question that loomed for all concerned was how well could they perform together 36 years after the release of their iconic Rumours album. The 2013/14 world tour coincided with a spate of band reunions. The Rolling Stones headlining that list, with mixed, but generally favourable reviews, most notably at this year’s Glastonbury. Would the FM band be a landslide success? Oh yes.
After a 20 minute delay, the band played in excess of two and a half hours including two encores, running right up to the 11pm curfew imposed by the venue.

Over the past couple weeks, I’ve dedicated a lot of time to covering the World 3-D Film Expo, which took place at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood and knocked my socks off. One of the headlining films, the most exciting one for us certainly, was Creature From The Black Lagoon, the legendary monster flick from Jack Arnold that starred Richard Carlson, Richard Denning, Nestor Paiva, and one Julie Adams, who may very well be the most famous scream queen of all-time thanks to her iconic role as Kay.
Julie and her son, Mitchell Danton, were in attendance for the Expo (for two screenings, Wings Of The Hawk also played) for a book signing and Q&A after the screening. I was lucky enough to get a chance to talk with the delightful pair, catching them after a late breakfast (as Mitch says, “a day can never start too late,...

The Australian radio station that famously prank called Kate Middleton at her hospital back in December 2012 broke the law with the controversial hoax, Australian authorities say. BBC News reports that the Australian Communications and Media Authority has found in a preliminary report that 2Day FM, the radio station responsible for the hoax, acted illegally by airing the phone call without consent. The prank call, which was made by radio hosts Michael Christian and Mel Greig, is currently being investigated by an Australian Federal court. The hoax happened last year while the Duchess was hospitalized for pregnancy morning sickness. Greig and Christian called Kate's hospital pretending to be Queen...

Rockstar’s open-world franchise has always been renowned for its quirky, satirical and downright entertaining soundtracks. From libellous talk shows to great music, the company has a knack for expanding their vast worlds through the aural medium. And for Grand Theft Auto V, that trend is set to continue, after it was revealed that the fifth numerical entry in the prestigious series will feature 15 radio stations, two dedicated radio talk shows and 240 licensed songs, which accumulates to “somewhere in the proximity of 20 movies’ worth of score.”

Not only did Coppola's father write and direct the movie, but it marked her own on-screen debut. She's there at the centre of the climactic baptism scene, a nipper still in nappies, oblivious to the innovative cross-cutting going on all around her. Now 42, she's a notoriously reserved interviewee, so I know this is just the ticket to bridge those awkward few moments between the handshake and the opening question. Obviously it would be a more arresting ice-breaker if the radio had been tuned to Kerrang! rather than Classic FM when the Godfather theme kicked in,...

Savannah, Ga. — Musician Ben Tucker performed with stars from Quincy Jones to Peggy Lee before he settled in the 1970s in Savannah, where the jazz bassist became one of the Georgia city's best-known working musicians.
He was killed in a car crash Tuesday at age 82.
Tucker was driving a golf cart across a road on Hutchinson Island when a car slammed into him at high speed, said Savannah-Chatham County police spokesman Julian Miller. Tucker was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver of the car that struck him was charged with vehicular homicide and other criminal counts.
The news stunned musicians and jazz enthusiasts in Savannah, where Tucker had been a musical fixture for roughly four decades. Tucker made his living playing upright bass – an instrument he'd named Bertha and claimed was 240 years old – in all sorts of settings from jazz festivals to wedding receptions, from nightclub gigs to bar mitzvahs.

Australian DJ Mel Greig will give evidence at the inquest of royal hoax call victim Jacintha Saldanha. The radio presenter - who made the call alongside fellow 2Day FM DJ Michael Christian, pretending to be Britain's Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles - has asked to appear in court in London on Thursday (02.06.13) to answer questions about her part in the tragic events, the Daily Mirror newspaper reports. Jacintha was found dead three days after she answered the call at central London's King Edward VII's Hospital last December, where Duchess Catherine was being treated for severe morning sickness. She had put them through to a nurse, who disclosed confidential details about the royal's condition live on air. Mel Greig's lawyers...

It's official, y'all: Miley Cyrus is the Queen of Twerk. Seriously, no one else can booty-pop in a unicorn onesie quite like her! And on Friday morning, Liam Hemsworth's fiancée dropped by Ryan Seacrest's Kiis FM show to talk about her twerking talents and her upcoming single with Snoop Dogg—err, Snoop Lion. "You can't really explain [twerking]," Miley said. "It's something that comes naturally…It's a lot of booty action." "I've been practicing probably for the past two years, in my own time in my living room," she added. And all that hard work hasn't gone unnoticed. "I can't believe how many people think I'm...
