The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

A character is forced to strip at gunpoint after which another character pulls his underwear down and his bare buttocks are exposed in several shots. The man then proceeds to anally rape him while forcing him to mimic the sounds of a pig. The scene is not graphic and is accomplished almost entirely with character reaction shots and is referred to later on via some dialogue.

Violence & Gore

A man accidently hits his own thumb with a hammer and screams out in pain.

A live fish is speared with an arrow, it is seen impaled and writhing around.

A man cuts Ed Gentry's (Jon Voight) chest with a large hunting knife, for some reason the wound doesn't bleed but does leave a red scar.

Lewis Medlock (Burt Reynolds) shoots a rapist with an arrow and is shown slowly dying, the rapist is seen with part of the arrow sticking out of his chest while the other part is seen sticking out of his back.

The rapists dead body is seen constantly over the next few minutes, blood is seen to be dribbling out of his nose and mouth.

The arrow is pulled out of the body.

Ed Gentry lands awkwardly and is impaled on one of his own arrows, the arrow is seen protruding from his side.

Ed pulls the arrow out.

A man is seen staggering around with an arrow through his neck before he dies.

The dead body of Drew Ballinger (Ronny Cox) is seen with a dislocated arm wraped around the back of his head.

Profanity

Frequent use of strong profanity and bad language.

Ed Gentry (Jon Voight) is seen smoking a pipe at the start.

Lewis Medlock (Burt Reynolds) is seen lighting and smoking a cigar.

3 of the 4 men are shown drinking alcohol around the campfire.

Bobby (Ned Beatty) is raped in the films only intense scene. While not graphic or explicit (i.e. no nudity), the scene is quite disturbing as it displays the victim being chased, held down and taunted during the assault
