Released soon after the end of the Great Depression and on the precipice of America’s entry into World War II, William Dieterle’s All That Money Can Buy is a peculiar and fascinating blend of the populist agitprop of the 1930s and the patriotic hokum that defined much of the war years.
In transposing the legend of Faust and his pact with the devil to a rousing bit of American folklore, the screenplay by Dan Totheroh and Stephen Vincent Benét presents greed as anathema to the American way of life, and in one of the few brief eras where that notion was anything short of risible. As such, rugged individualism is spurned in favor of collectivism, specifically in the exalting of the values of an agricultural grange—a communal safety net for small farmers like All That Money Can Buy’s protagonist, Jabez Stone (James Craig).

The stars of Criminal Minds are very versatile. When they aren’t profiling serial killers on-screen, many of them are behind the cameras, directing their fellow cast members. Over the years, Criminal Minds has aired more than 30 episodes directed by cast members. That includes Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Joe Mantegna, and more. Here’s a complete list of episodes directed by the stars.

Adam Rodriguez joined the cast of Criminal Minds as Luke Alvez in season 12. Not long after his debut on the series, Rodriguez put his past directing experience to use by taking the lead on two episodes. Then, when Criminal Minds returned for the revival (a.k.a. season 16), he directed another episode.

For almost 100 years, the motion picture academy has honored the best in film, but many times the winners aren’t always the best remembered, or the films that go on to become classics. At the 14th ceremony, “How Green Was My Valley” famously won Best Picture over “Citizen Kane,” now considered by most filmmakers, historians and cinephiles as the greatest movie ever made – and even those who disagree acknowledge its profound influence on the industry. Additionally, there were quite a few now-classic films and performances that either didn’t win, or were snubbed altogether. Let’s flashback 80 years ago to the 1942 Oscars ceremony.
SEE15 biggest Oscar Best Picture upsets, ranked
Hosted by Bob Hope, the ceremony took place on February 26, less than three months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and a month after beloved actress Carole Lombard was killed in a plane crash – while returning home after selling war bonds.

Now restored to perfection, this genuine classic hasn’t been seen intact for way over sixty years. Michael Curtiz and Robert Rossen adapt Jack London’s suspenseful allegory in high style, with a superb quartet of actors doing some of their best work: Robinson, Garfield, Lupino and newcomer Alexander Knox.

Criminal Minds introduced fans to Mr. Scratch back in season 10, and while he may have only been in six episodes, his presence has been felt for many more episodes than that. Was the resolution of his storyline in the season 13 premiere worth the wait?
In some aspects, yes, it was satisfying to wrap it up. But it was lacking in others. Instead, we're left to think about his impact on the team when he's not there, when he is there and now when he's gone and if that is enough.

Of all the legendary early horror films Carl Theodor Dreyer’s vampire nightmare was once the most difficult to appreciate — until Criterion’s restoration of a mostly intact, un-mutilated full cut. Dreyer creates his fantasy according to his own rules — this pallid, claustrophobic horror is closer to Ordet than it is Dracula or Nosferatu.

If the flop-ridden Hindi film industry had its hopes pinned on the new Shah Rukh Khan starrer for salvation, then it’s time to unpin those hopes.
Imtiaz Ali’s eagerly awaited Jab Harry Met Sejal is a lengthy lumbering, baggy and pointless love story….as lengthy, lumbering, etc, as his earlier Tamasha where two grown-up individuals behaved like a bratty unpleasant couple on a reality-show pretending to be people they were not.

Criminal Minds left us with a cliffhanger in the season 12 finale for the first time since season 3. And it was all about the show's antagonist, Mr. Scratch, who has been taunting the Bau team for years. At this point, even though Mr. Scratch is clearly good at what he does, as he's able to slip through the cracks way too many times -- especially considering he's up against a team of the best -- it's time for him to go.

Criminal Minds season 12 was a tough year for Dr. Spencer Reid. He took a bit of time off to help his mother and even brought her home to live with him, at which point he had to balance that with work. He did what he felt he had to do to help Diana and ended up in prison after being framed for murder.
He had to do things he wouldn't have thought of doing before to stay alive while behind bars. And he learned that the one behind his suffering wasn't Mr. Scratch, as they all assumed, but Cat Adams, working from her own prison with someone he only briefly encountered years ago.

Yes, Cat Adams is a psychopath and has put Reid through hell, but Matthew Gray Gubler and Aubrey Plaza play off one another so well it's impossible not to hope to see her in the future, and as great as they were in "Entropy," that has nothing on how spectacular they are in this Criminal Minds episode.
The season 12 finale, "Red Light," sees the team working to save Diana Reid from Lindsey Vaughn, who has been working with Cat, not Mr. Scratch, as they all thought, but that doesn't mean that Peter Lewis' presence isn't still felt. Well, it's at least likely he's behind what brings Morgan back (briefly) to his old workplace. ...

This week’s Criminal Minds season finale sees actor Shemar Moore make his big return as Derek Morgan. The episode, titled Red Light, sees Morgan come to the team with a lead which could possibly help catch the elusive fugitive Mr. Scratch, who has been taunting the team all season. Shemar is a familiar face to Criminal Minds fans, having played the same role on the CBS series from 2005 to 2016. The last episode he appeared in was 2016’s A Beautiful Distaster. It's time for the Criminal Minds season 12 finale, and the stakes are high for the team in "Red Light." Lindsey Vaughn has kidnapped Reid's mother, and she's been working with Cat Adams, whom Reid went to see at the end of the penultimate episode of the season. It's time for these two to square off again.
Also, Shemar Moore returns as Morgan, who has a lead that might help catch Mr. Scratch.

The Bau can use all the help it can get right now, so what better time for Derek Morgan to return than in the Criminal Minds season 12 finale? Reid's mother is missing, Reid has to square off with Cat Adams again and sure, Mr. Scratch might not have been the one behind framing Reid, but he is still out there somewhere.
And in "Red Light," Morgan comes to the team with a lead that might help catch Peter Lewis.

Ok, high marks to the viewers who saw this twist coming.
Mr. Scratch has been a red herring all season. Instead, it was revealed that Cat Adams was behind Reid's troubles on Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 21.
And finally, finally, finally Reid was freed from prison.
But he's hardly free.
That's because mini-psycho Lindsey Vaughn kidnapped his mother Diana and disappeared.
Poor Reid! Even his own teammates thought he was delusional.
Of course, that's because he has been quite delusional ever since his arrest. What's real? What's caused by the drugs in his system, and what's caused by his jumbled memories? Who can say?
So when Reid asked for Prentiss' help, claiming that some obscure unsub from a decade ago had abducted his mother, of course, she was a little skeptical.
Just like all the viewers who were thinking, "That's the big payoff? I barely remember her."
Now puzzle me this:...

The Bau comes through for each other on Criminal Minds, and never has it been more important for that to be true than it is in this episode, "Green Light."
Reid may still be in prison and his life may still be in danger, but Spencer's not the only Reid who's in trouble in the penultimate episode of the season. Diana's missing, and as the team soon realizes, Reid is right to be yelling that they need to find Lindsey Vaughn. However, that's just the beginning, as they realize once they think they've tracked her down and think they know that she's working with Mr. Scratch.

Well, there's nothing like sitting through 44 minutes of humdrum narrative to get to one minute of reveal.
But that was the situation on Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 20.
Let's go through that humdrum portion first, then hopefully pick up more narrative momentum than this hour did.
Somebody was radioactively poisoning federal workers at random.
Was it The Russians?
That would have made for a more interesting storyline.
But no.
Instead, it was a woman who wanted to get rid of her husband and collect a $5 million insurance payout.
It couldn't be a simple murder. To be Bau worthy, it had to be complicated.
The nurse, a caretaker, had to collect radioactive materials from a bunch of different hospitals, then sandwich her husband's murder among four or five others.
Still, they managed to figure out Sarah's plot and gun her down before the last commercial break.
They didn't even need Garcia to...

When several federal government employees, including a close friend of Walker's, succumb to symptoms of a heart attack, the Bau investigates.
Walker's friend is a former counter-intelligence agent who worked in Russia.
While it could have been Mr. Scratch, it's Putin who has access to the "Special Room" where irradiated poisons are made for cases just like this.
On Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 20, it's up to the Bau team to investigate all of the angles.
And really, isn't the idea of Russian operatives far more interesting than a plain ol' American or Mr. Scratch?
But don't worry, that's not all we'll be seeing on "Unforgettable."

With only three episodes of Criminal Minds season 12 left to go, Reid's still in prison and still putting together what happened in that motel room in Mexico. He did make progress during his last conversation with Tara, remembering that Mr. Scratch drugged him, but then he said that she told him it was "time to go" and she walked out of there and wanted him to chase her. "It wasn't Scratch who framed me," he explained. "It was a woman."
Assuming we can trust that memory, who is that woman? It seems more likely than not it's going to be someone recognizable from a previous episode, and Gia Mantegna is reprising her role as Lindsey Vaughn in the final three episodes. When TVLine asked showrunner Erica Messer about her return, all she said was "that's a bit of a spoiler." Could Lindsey be the one who framed Reid?...

Look, we get it. Prison is bad for the innocent, and especially for a sensitive soul such as Reid. So put a stake in this storyline already.
But I digress.
Next came a bit of foofaraw that got the whole Bau excited. Mr. Scratch had been recently spotted in Honduras. That meant he's on the same subcontinent on which Reid's life took a turn for the worse.
Surely that coincidental fact, tied to Reid's spotty, drug-addled recollections, was enough ratchet up an FBI manhunt for Scratch.
Not really. Scratch doesn't seem to be anybody's priority.

What happened in Mexico cannot stay in Mexico, and in this Criminal Minds episode, the team is even more determined to have Reid remember just what happened and get Mr. Scratch, so Tara and Prentiss both sit out the case to do what they have to to help their teammate.
Meanwhile, Rossi, J.J., Luke and Stephen head to Arizona in "True North" to investigate when three bodies are found tied to stakes in the desert. If the case does just one thing, it teaches that science fair competition can be killer.

This week on CBS’ Criminal Minds, Reid retrieves a memory from the fateful day that ultimately landed him behind bars. But maybe he would be better off to lose the memory anew?

Making his move from editor (Citizen Kane, The Devil and Daniel Webster, and The Magnificent Ambersons) to director in the early 1940s, Robert Wise wasted little time jumping into a variety of arguably B-grade pictures (like the Val Lewton sequel The Curse of the Cat People, the Guy de Maupassant adaptation Mademoiselle Fifi, and back again to Lewton for the marvelous Robert Louis Stevenson tale The Body Snatchers).

The first part of any given year is usually pretty dry when it comes to awards contenders. As such, a lot of the time speculation surrounds who might end up in play, should their upcoming films be worthy of contention. Once such actor with a decent sized slate in 2017 is Woody Harrelson. Here is a man with Academy Award nominations to his name, but perhaps no driving force so far pushing him towards an Oscar. He also was just out and out snubbed in regards to receiving no attention last year for The Edge of Seventeen. Could that change this year? There’s a chance, but first, he begins by trying to please the crowd with his new comedy Wilson. It opens this week after a debut in January at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie, for those wondering, is a dark edged comedy, one with Harrelson playing the title character.

Shemar Moore is returning to Criminal Minds Season 12 as Derek Morgan.
If you're a fan of Moore, then you know he's not one to totally abandon any role.
Years after leaving his role of Malcolm Winters on The Young and the Restless, when the character's brother needed him, Moore was ready to reprise the role and do his part as a character he loved.
Now, Moore hasn't been gone that long from his role as Derek Morgan, but once again, he has something the team needs and wouldn't ever consider letting it ride.
So, Shemar Moore will return to Criminal Minds to guest star on the series' 12th season finale, Wednesday, May 10 at 9/8c, on the CBS Television Network.
An original cast member is coming home!
In the episode, Morgan brings the Bau a lead in the case against serial killer and escaped convict Mr. Scratch, who has wreaked havoc on the team all season.

The actor will be reprising his role as Derek Morgan to work on the case of escaped serial killer Mr. Scratch (Bodhi Elfman), who has been the Big Bad for the team this season. Moore was one of the show’s original cast members. He played Morgan, a Special Agent of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) tasked with profiling criminals. He debuted in the pilot back in 2005, but left the show in the 11th season after 250 episodes. Also Read: Shemar Moore Departs...

The Bau headed to New York City to solve another freaky case.
But the ghost of Spencer Reid hung over Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 16.
The case of the week was yet another misogynistic sadist taking out his issues on the women he abducted.
Yeah, I know. Women are more than half the population, but they end up being 90% of the victims on Criminal Minds, especially when torture is involved. It's getting more than a little old.
And torture was definitely involved in this episode, as the unsub nicknamed the Bone Crusher kept breaking as many bones as he could while keeping his victim alive.
In a nice change of pace, the Bau got the unsub, Danny White, handed to them before the first commercial break. They just had to believe.
I figure that wall of broken-bone artwork in the unsub's apartment was enough to make believers of anyone.

They're going to be a distracted Bau for the next few weeks.
It was more about who wasn't there than who was on Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 15.
The Bau is having to learn to function without its big-brained Boy Wonder.
And Reid is having to learn to survive in a place where logic won't serve him well.
Fortunately, the team had a particularly gruesome case to solve this week, with an acid-spraying misogynist attacking the pretty people of Philadelphia.
The poor Bau, having to make sense of an unsub that attacked with no seemingly unifying pattern.
But it was simple really, in a twisted way (what other way is there on Criminal Minds?). The unsub hated all those who were getting laid when he and other "uncels" (unvoluntarily celibate) such as himself weren't.
Good thing most people in that situation just fester inside and drink, rather than take destructive action.

Mr. Scratch has definitely put Baby Boy in a corner.
Unlike his quickly resolved efforts earlier this season, Peter Lewis continues to put the screws to Reid on Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 14.
Reid may be home, but he's definitely not safe yet, as more and more evidence piles up against him.
I found it pretty unbelievable that the Mexican police were able to recover the knife that was the murder weapon from where it was tossed in the desert.
Seriously, with all the lawlessness in parts of Mexico, how likely is it that enough police could be spared to search the entire route of the high-speed chase from Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 13?
And that his blood and fingerprints were intact after several days of the knife baking in the sun?
I'd think that a good lawyer could get that tossed. I'm betting chain of custody in Mexico isn't up to U.

Exiled on the grounds of a remote country estate near Caithness after an expansive career as a soldier and mercenary, in which he served in campaigns spanning Africa, India and the Middle East, colonial anachronism Guy Wallace has yet to put his killing days behind him. A keen hunter, he wiles away his twilight years stalking deer and rabbits around the Scottish Highlands between sporadic expeditions to Africa to take on (and successively take out) the so-called Big Five. In what is likely to be his last trip, Guy is shadowed by documentary filmmaker and fervent vegan David Graham Scott on the trail of the mighty and majestic Cape Buffalo.
Despite his strong views on the subject as an “extreme vegetarian”, which invariably sees him reject the slaughter of animals for sustenance let alone for sport, Scott’s film isn’t intended as a comprehensive or categorical condemnation of trophy hunting.

The difficult year of Dr. Spencer Reid continues.
Poor Reid. Just being a dutiful son eventually lands him in a Mexican jail on Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 13.
In jail in a foreign country where he doesn't speak the language without his most lethal weapon: his beautiful mind, as Garcia puts it.
Apparently, the unsub behind this frame-up knows Reid well, enough to know what he's doing.
The Bau team members naturally assume that Peter Lewis, Mr. Scratch, is behind this. Why? Because he's this season's boogeyman.
Good a guess as any, since nothing was proved in this draggy first part of a two-parter spotlighting Reid.
The why for Reid's trip is simple: to find a holistic treatment for his mother that might slow her Alzheimer's.
So that's where that swamp water he's been giving his mom came from.
What's not so simple is why he shut out his teammates from his plans.
