Frank Strayer, who had done some interesting horror and melodrama work early in his career, landed up helming many lightweight Jones Family and Blondie programmers. Here he directs musical star Jose Mojica in a gypsy romance with 6 songs of which the standouts are Cuando El Amor Llama and Zingaro Vagabundo. Several of these numbers are done with the palace staff or the kitchen cooks joining in as they go about their work, a nice touch.
There is a bit of everything here: a carnival, a duel, an abduction, and even something silly Mojica prepares for his beloved princess called a Love Salad.
Not a bad little operetta.
