Candlewood has got that spark, you know? It's like a mixed bag of tricks-great actors, part local legend, part psychological thriller that keeps you guessing.

Candlewood, centered around an urban legend of Lover's Leap, Princess Lillinonah and her tragic love story. While the storyline holds much promise. I had hoped for a deeper exploration of Princess Lillinonah's story and of Candlewood lake as a whole. I couldn't help feeling a bit let down by the film as this was underutilized.

One of my expectations going into the film was this wasn't going to be the typical horror trope. In my mind, I pictured something along the lines of Guillermo del Toro's visionary style, with a sprinkle of Tarantino or Guy Ritchie's clever dialogue and gritty realism. I wanted those subtle details that make you think, I longed to find out the ghosts, despite their creepy appearance, were not a direct threat to the characters but rather to share Princess Lillinonah tragic story and serve as mirrors, forcing the characters-and the audience-to confront their own inner demons, and a peek into their messed-up psyches.

Visually, there are moments of real cinematic beauty, but I wished for more. There were a few shots in the first quarter that were a bit rough around the edges. Given the length of the movie, I expected more immersive shots of candlewood lake and its surroundings, but these were few. However, as it goes on, you can see it finding its footing.

There were certain moments in the film that left me questioning if I had missed crucial plot points or character developments. There was a scene where the family forces the mom to drink her pills, I felt I miss something there. There were a few little detail mistakes like when the mom and daughter leave the house jogging to the hiking trail, then return to the house in the car they never left in.

But hey, Candlewood may have not exceeded my expectations, but it did deliver and is worth watching. I've heard a two more films are in the works, and I would be eager to see Candlewood evolve into a captivating saga it has the potential to be.
