I LOVE this live action remake of one of the most iconic manga of the 80s
I was OBSESSED with the manga and Hojo sensei was literally my idol.
Suzuki (and the stylists) really REALLY captured the persona of Saeba San. The attention to details are mind blowing, the hairstyle, the choice of outfits, the way he holds his gun.. AND the way he stands, omg! The posture is SPOT ON that only a die hard fan of the manga/anime would notice this 🤣.
I think they made a good decision in casting Kaori. Feels just right. Not overwhelmingly attractive or cute but still playfully charming.
Some details are toned down for a good reason. I mean how would you depict Ryo's massiveness?! 🤣 Tho there are references to this which I find quite amusing. Saeko is definitely not a sex goddess like in the manga. Fair enough, a lady detective who resemble Japanese Pamela Anderson won't fly anymore for today's standard. Good choice!
There is also a good amount of siliness which is apt for the portrayal of Ryo. I mean it's the perverted and outrageous Ryo after all. (**Spoiler** the Uber eat remark cracked me up)
There are some shots of Ryo and Kaori that are practically taken from the manga! I was hysterical!
I think there's a plan for the sequel. I mean where's Umibozu, Miki and Erika, among others. Bring them on!!!!
As I said, you have to be a die-hard fan to appreciate this movie. Otherwise it's just an ordinary movies and the references are just lost.
**Spoilers** I was hysterical when the hammer made its appearance. I was like how the heck they were going to pull this one off?! They did it quite tastefully 😁. And the end shot was just 👍🤣. Well done!
