Civil War explains the title of this road trip movie to hell and all you need to know about the plot can be summed up in a few words mayhem, insanity and a Nation imploding.
This modern Civil War takes place in the not to distant future but unlike The first American Civil War when the country split into two groups North and South this war involves the whole nation split 4 ways known as Loyalist states, Western Forces The Florida Alliance and The New People's Army When the unlikely alliance of Texas and California known as The Western Forces are about to make a final push to the Capital Washington to permanently remove a rogue President the violence really escalates to fever pitch.
A team of war reporters led by Lee played Kirsten Dunst who gives a wonderful performance and Joel played by Wagner Moura leave a war torn New York City to cover the action and try to get an exclusive interview with The President before the Western Forces get to the White House.
A third member of the group is a young aspiring reporter Jesse played by Cailee Spaeny who also is impressive plus a veteran reporter Sammy played by Stephen McKinley Henderson.
My problem with this movie written and directed by Alex Garland is that so much is unexplained with so many questions unanswered like who, what, when and why did this Civil War begin.
We as movie audiences are instantly thrown into the action and horror of very confronting and very disturbing war violence with no background, perhaps that's the direction that Alex Garland decided he wanted this movie to take .
It begins with this unnamed President in his third time giving a national telecast falsely stating a great victory is imminent that's all we know.
Then the crux of the story begins with the war reporters hellish trip to the Capital.
I really hope every American sees this movie but I can't say it impressed me in fact it disturbed me again I'm sure that was Alex Garlands intention .
However if it makes Americans think about the consequences of who they vote for this year he has my vote .
