I have played all the halo games albeit with a lotta cutscene skips and consider myself a Halo fan.
Coming from that background I absolutely loved the character development of the person behind Master Chief as they really delved deep into who John really was and his relationship with Halsey, Cortana and Makee a completely new edition to the halo series.
There was a lot of 'new' stuff to unpack including the UNSC political corruption and showing Halsey as the corrupt narcissist she is. Other than than some needless side characters like Soren, the storyline was executed with care and worth a watch.
