'Still Crazy (1998)' tells a literal 'getting the band back together' tale, focusing on a 70s rock band who regroup twenty years after an ill-fated, lightening-struck performance marks the end of their time together. The energy of its opening movement reminds me of a less successful 'The World's End (2013)', and it's easy to imagine Edgar Wright being inspired by the recruitment segments in which we find out what the musicians are up to now and why they're willing into revisit their former business. My brother pointed out that it feels as though it should be better than it is, even in the moment; there are some solid concepts and performances, and even a few moments of satisfyingly stylish direction. For the most part, it's a predictable affair from start to finish. That's not necessarily a bad thing, to be fair. It's generally rather enjoyable, but it's never exactly compelling and it also doesn't really wrap anything up by the time it's over. There's not all that much to say about it, to be honest. It features a few laughs, some catchy music and an archetypical yet well-executed narrative. It's a perfectly decent way to pass the time, but it's hard to be particularly excited about any of it. It's one step above fine, but I can't quite decide if that step is significant enough to recommend it.
