Roadkill (I) (2024)
7/10
Very Good Intense, thriller with a independent low budget on sprinkles. Better than NIGHT SWIM for sure

I actually saw this film in part due to the high ratings. I thought "no way in hell could this be such a great movie." So I saw it, to make my own choice. Here are my thoughts. This genre generally doesn't get the best ratings. Low budget, no-name actors, blow up or burn something down for real and a lot of 'implied' gore plus a few strong action scenes where it gets real. This film kept the story going, even though there wasn't the greatest transitional music ... or sound quality, in general. The story, tried and true, was told more towards the perspective of 'what are the odds that ... two serial killers wind up in the same car.' I think that thought was paraphrased from the final 'Dexter' movie, and was one of two good things from it (the other was Jamie Chung.) This film has Caitlin Carmichael, and she succeeded in being the best actor in this venture. She stood out, in that poor trailer-trash sort of 'innocence.' Yeah that type. Typical of this genre, that poor abused child survived a little road worn, bruised, battered and bleeding, but she lives to kill another day. For that, I am grateful

Conclusion: This film is an exploration of complex psychological themes, delivered through powerful performances. The complex Music/Score was a -1 pitch tone I did apperceiated myself. The opening sequence, a harrowing depiction of a boy suffering physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his mother, is particularly impactful. Offering a thrilling journey filled with intense action and a cleverly executed twist, this film is a throwback to the 1980s horror genre. Casting Danielle Harris was the cherry on top.
