(1968) Memories of the Underdevelopment/ Memorias del subdesarrollo.

(In Spanish with English subtitles) DOCU-DRAMA

Adapted from the novel "Inconsolable Memories" by Edmundo Desnoes (also credited as co writer for the screenplay) co-written and directed by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea. It has Sergio (Sergio Corrieri) who's wife, Noemi (Eslinda Núñez) has just left him. And makes attempts to pick up another woman he found attractive, and was rejected Until he meets 16 year old, Elena (Daisy Granados), who has aspirations to be an actress, he then invites her into his apartment, only so he can let her have some of his ex's clothes she did not take with her. And after he spends some time with her, did not want to have anything to do with her anymore. All this melodrama was happening used as a backdrop to showcase actual images of some of the atrocities conducted by the Cuban army or by the Cuban gov't, as well as listening to his criticisms about it. It is insightful, with a lot of criticism that is occurring is what viewers are listening to what he is thinking from his head that can be defined as a narration.
