Great old-style, fun adventure stuff - pure entertainment. ...but whatever you do, avoid the cartoon episode 7 of the second season. This is the so-called comedy episode: it's beyond dreadful.
This feels like the true sequel to the original Star Trek. Each episode has a stand alone story but with an engaging story arc as the characters get to know each other. All the main cast are as well written as each other and all have their own episodes focusing on their own personal adventures or issues. It's a great fun series with the highlight episode being 'the musical' where they find they can only communicate in song! Echoes of BUFFY with that one.
Of the new batch of spin offs, PICARD is the most enjoyable - that's exciting, intelligent and fun but this but although much less cerebral, this is still addictive viewing. ....and it's a million times better than the tedium known as DISCOVERY which takes itself far too seriously, that's even worse than Deep Space 9!
