What you need to understand is that this is an independent production, so every component is on a budget. That doesn't mean that the story has to suffer and it sure didn't.
I was actually surprised how much this movie had to offer: Prison break, heavy rain, alligators, white supremacist (great acting!), a sweet southern guy, Casper van Dien as a charismatic inmate and a gorgeous Nicky Whelan who can stand her grounds in the midst of all the tough guys. Great fight scenes, too.
This movie is absolutely enjoyable and I actually watched it twice!
I don't really get the negative reviews.
CGI not good enough? Who cares, I sure didn't expect to see real alligators.
No heavy dialog? Who cares, it's a creature movie.
Movie was shot in Thailand and not in Louisiana? Well, that gives you an idea how expensive it is to actually shoot a movie in the States. And besides, who cares? It's not like the actors spoke Thai.
My recommendation: See the negative reviews as a vicious way of people passing their time, grab your popcorn, lean back and enjoy!
