Review of Mummies

Mummies (2023)
6/10
Thut X Nefer Are Cute!
16 May 2023
Mummies is an animated film following 3 mummies who journey to the surface/human world to retrieve the royal ring. Along the way they encounter obstacles that only working together will they be able to overcome. Which is harder then it seems as Thut and Nefer do not want to marry each other.

Story wise it's pretty simple thanks to a linear tale with an ending even a new born baby could see coming from a mile away. That said it is still interesting enough to entertain you, though there are no twists or turns to spice things up a bit. Ending as I said was very predictable, but it's the ending I wanted and if they had changed it for whatever reason. Say for example to spice things up I would be rating the movie a star lower, as I'm a romantic and once I started to ship Nefer and Thut I wanted them to be endgame.

Casting wise the voice acting was superb! Eleanor Tomlinson played Nefer and Joe Thomas brought Thut to life. Sean Bean played the Pharaoh and somehow his character did not die so good stuff there!

Song wise, the movie was nothing special. I actually got rather annoyed with the songs in the movie when I just wanted to see the rather minimal plot move along.

VFX and SFX are good, animation looks great and nothing wrong there.

Overall I give the movie a 6/10 as it was fun to watch but very predictable and not something I'd watch again anytime soon.
