Kurosawa stands for quality!
20 March 2023
I like Akira Kurosawa movies. The seven samurai and Ran were both great movies and I was really looking forward to see another picture of the great master. And voilá the next quality film. This time not set in Japan but in Sibiria, Kurosawa manages to tell an interesting, entertaining and heartwarming story about the hunter Dersu Uzala and his relation to the captain of a russian squad. I loved Dersu as a character, especially his intelligent way of understanding the wilds. This is very inspirational and lets you see the nature with different eyes.

This makes the movie a great experience would not there be the length. Kurosawa movies often take a long time to watch and not every movie manages to fill this length properly. Unfortunately Dersu Uzala is a bit too long which is my single big criticism.

All in all this is definitely worth a watch if you like Korosawa's other movies!
