Oh Brother, my brother, where aren't you
21 October 2022
A heartfelt, sometimes hard to watch, telling of being the younger sibling of a non-verbal autistic brother through the hardest part of puberty, i.e. Dating! Add moving to a new city and school, having an army-dad, and welcoming a new, baby sibling to the powder keg and you get this very emotionally blunt smack to the viewer's senses! A look behind the closed doors of a family living with the joys and pitfalls of raising a growing boy that communicates in a unique, non-verbal manner that is only understood through patience and understanding: two things a teenager trying to fit in, date and hide his autistic brother does not have much of!

Portrayed in an upbeat, sometimes hilarious fashion, it looks fun and easy. As a former disabilty support worker, it's much harder than it looks, and is definately as rewarding or moreso than represented in this film. But, to clarify, the film is about a teenager moving schools, finding acceptance, and living with a brother with special needs. And the film is about love. Lots and lots of it in different expressions!

More than a tear shed, and the veins of empathy have been unclogged!
