It's quite amazing to notice how similar Emma Stone and Mila Kunis look to each other; I wonder what went through the director's mind that he ended up signing up both actresses for this film. I wish there were some scenes with both actresses in it, watching both of them in the same frame would have felt unreal! I decided to watch 'Friends with Benefits' just to have a good time because I was tired of watching serious stuff, or movies with award winning or worthy performances. Every once in a while or perhaps more, one must watch a movie that is an out an out entertainer; it's truly a great stress buster technique.
Friends with Benefits doesn't waste too much time in getting to the reason why anyone would want to watch this film. Of course, you know what will happen ultimately between the two protagonists, you can see the direction the story will take, but you still take the ride because it's a lot of fun and also because the female protagonist is Mila Kunis.
The concept they take up in the film is needless to say, absurd; there is no such thing as sex without emotions and feelings, which our protagonists do ultimately realize; but in all its absurdity, the screenplay does manage to make you laugh. Eventually the movie turns into a sweet romantic comedy, and a good one at that. It's not something groundbreaking or anything that you haven't seen before, but you will end up enjoying it nevertheless.
Both Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis have done a pretty good job in the film, and as a cherry on top you also have the always outstanding Woody Harrelson. It's quite surprising to see that an actress like Mila Kunis, who has so much caliber, is yet to reach the heights that a Kate Winslet or Nicole Kidman have reached. I don't understand how she hasn't done a career defining or an award winning role till now. Mila Kunis, who looks absolutely gorgeous in every single frame of the film, is much better than the kind of films she ends up doing.
If you are looking for an easy going film purely for the purpose of entertaining yourself and can do without Oscar worthy performances and a masterclass in acting, then this film might just do the trick for you.
