The last picture show.

Warning: Spoilers
Looking round on the Arrow site on the final day of their recent sale,I was thrilled to stumble on a Neo-Giallo title that I've not heard of before, leading to me grabbing a ticket for the matinee showing.

View on the film:

Locking eyes with the audience via book-ending the title with striking eye shots, co-writer (with Manuel Facal ) / director Maximiliano Contenti makes his (solo) feature film directing debut by closely working with cinematographer Benjamin Silva to reel in an eerie, ultra-stylized Giallo atmosphere of swooping panning shots through the flickering light of the cinema screen, towards razor-sharp whip-pans following the cinema-goers fleeing down the rows of seats,as they try to avoid getting caught in the killer last reel.

Bringing the curtain down to Hernan Gonzalez's terrific ominous electronic Prog Rock score, Contenti splices the film with sparkling Giallo set-pieces, zooming in on the dripping across the screen gory killings, with Contenti cleverly using the confine, low-lit cinema setting for wide-shots that fully display the excellent practical effects murders.

Booking everyone in for the final screening, the screenplay by Contenti & Facal plays a compact Giallo Slasher hybrid, where the teens in the audience begin to fear a black glove killer is hiding in the shadows of the screening, killing them one by one, leading to the surviving audience members searching in desperation for an exit from a blade in the dark, coming out of the last picture show.
