Bondesque

Warning: Spoilers
Released the same year as Sean Connery's Diamonds are Forever, you could say this is Bond light, but that would be doing this film a disservice. True it has elements of it's more famous brother, but on a far less budget.

Anthony Hopkins in an early role plays Philip Calvert, a naval agent investigating piracy off the coast of Scotland. Based on the novel by Alistair MacLean, this is a well made and acted movie that doesn't outstay it's welcome.

Hopkins come off well as the gruff hero with comedic elements handled well by Robert Morley. The glamorous Nathalie Delon does well too as the "Bond girl" element of the movie, I do feel Corin Redgrave is underplayed as I feel his character had a lot more to provide. Possibly too many bad guys as well and we don't really know who the main baddie is until the end. At least there's a slight happy ending when Nathalie Delon sails off into the sunset with a bar of bullion.

Decent effort.
