. . . Sir John Toffee accidentally discovered the formula for salt water taffy in Bath, England the week of August 11, 1817. SALT WATER TABBY reveals most of the secret ingredients used to make this confection, while providing little in the way of clues as to correct proportions and cooking steps. Though the original recipe calls for two cups of diced crab, cat and rodent, some modern chefs have gained kudos for substituting sirloin for feline. This picture hints of a 50-50 sand to salt ratio, which is generally the rule. While Tom demonstrates the benefits of using an air fryer, most culinary newbies should stick with the basic boil. Packaging still can make all the difference in the world. Tom is all thumbs here at wrapping individual bits of taffy in the iconic wax paper, which is the same as reminding viewers to break the tradition of gumming up this seaside treat with such infernal poppycock.
