Yes the Germans knew the aalies were coming but did not know when or where. They did not know code names such as Overlord. They had no agents in England double or otherwise. So the filmmakers have turned the situation around to give them more information than they actually had.
However to suggest that a humble first lieutenant had any information is stretching things to the nth degree.
