End of Days (1999)
7/10
subpar script and overdramatic music make it hard to take this movie seriously, but is redeemed by cool effects and a rather unique role for Arnie

As much as I love Schwarzenegger and demonic themed movies (as much of a hit and miss as they are), this one rides that whole Y2K paranoia theme that is silly in itself, and ties the satanism ploy so deep that it's a struggle to take it seriously. At all. Even during particularly solemn scenes, then there's Gabriel Byrne as Lucifer who basically smirks and does arguably awesome things the whole movie. At least some of the effects are really cool, Kevin Pollak is funny, and this remains a favorite role by Schwarzenegger simply because it's out of the norm for him. He's run down, both emotionally and psychologically, he's rebellious, and he has stubble! Plus the one-liners are back, and even Byrne gets a few off. It's one of those movies you just have to enjoy it for what it is, sans seriousness.
