The Ritz (1976)
2/10
Nigh unwatchable.

You can see why this was a hit in the 70s. The film stimulates its straight audiences' voyeuristic curiosity with its setting, a gay bathhouse, but wholly defuses the risk of their actual titillation with punchlines that firmly quarantine male-male sexuality within the realms of absurdity or disgust.

Comedically, the film accomplishes about as much as a classic episode of The Looney Toons I suppose; but then, the dialogue that complements this uninspired physical humor of chases and head-bops is just cheap, dated and grating, not least because not one but two main characters adopt insufferable speech affectations.

It's one thing for a film to be a product of its time; I certainly don't fault it for that. But it's another for it to lack any redeeming qualities besides.
