Baring genuine intentions, Walt Disney aimed for an animated adaptation that remained faithful to the style and heart of its source material. However, the destructive decision to shorten the film to a sparse hour makes 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' another unfortunate miss for a potentially successful reboot. Although the animation looks great, the voice cast is perfect, and the messages within its narrative are realistic and heartfelt, the film fails to convey its sincere heart and character within just a singular hour.
