The Long Call (2021)

Warning: Spoilers
There were far too many from what was a good storyline with some tension.

But it slithered rapidly into a lay on the red herrings, have the detective cry a few times, signal the murderer from way off though with a slight twist and have everyone live downtrodden miserable lives.

Quite depressing when it needn't have been. The incident room was vast and fancy and the lead was always dashing off in nineteen directions but not questioning the suspects as completely as he should. Everyone had unnecessary secrets.

I've seen better and I've seen worse and the writer Ann Cleeves can be a hit or miss with her plotting.

The scenery was all Doc Martin and so were the "my maid" ish accents which always ring false.

Interesting to see Ciaran Hinds' daughter in a yeah, you guessed it, in one of the many long faced dreary roles.

6/10.
