long winding romance
1 September 2021
Former reporter Charles Wills (Van Johnson) returns to Paris years after the war. The movie flashes back to him in uniform in Paris as it erupts into celebration for the VE day. He meets Marion Ellswirth (Donna Reed) but it's her sister Helen Ellswirth (Elizabeth Taylor) that everyone falls in love with. Helen had been one of the girls who kissed him in the streets. They start a long romance.

It's a long winding romantic drama. It's a melodrama. The start with the crowds in the streets is exciting but that thrill slowly peters out as the story meanders through a long love life. It's an old Hollywood film more notable for some of the actors in the cast. Elizabeth Taylor is all star power. She's the glittering jewel in the middle. Van Johnson is a little overpowered but he holds his own. Roger Moore is way young and looks a bit different although his voice is unmistakable. Overall, it's a long winding old fashion romance and that's its intention.
