The Gate (I) (2016)
9/10
A showcase for Amy Johnston
6 July 2021
The story is minimal, imparted at the very beginning and the very end of these 8 minutes. The set and its decoration look good, as do wardrobe and props. Effects come mostly in the form of blood, but these look swell, too.

Above all, 'The gate' is an exhibition of martial arts skills. With Amy Johnston starring, we get to see her show off some of what she (and/or double Allison Caetano) knows against several opponents; hats off as well to choreographer Cecep Arif Rahman.

Quick as this short is, there's not much more to say. I'd have liked to have seen more, but I do enjoy it for what it is - and we can certainly catch more martial arts elsewhere, from Johnston and others.
