This Film is Based on a true story and a real Horse. Toni Collette plays Jan Vokes a Bartender at a Welsh pub who decides to spice up her life by Breeding a Horse. She and her Husband Brian (Owen Teale) who is missing some teeth, convince about 20 towns people including Howard the Accountant (Damian Lewis) to invest 10 a week and they form an Alliance. Once the Foal is born they name him Dream Alliance and board him at a Race Horse Training Barn. The Alliance have many get togethers that always include plenty of FUNNY Drinking and Singing scenes . Once DREAM is found to be a Fast Horse they start entering him in Races and he becomes the Talk of the town. The eclectic Alliance go on Bus Rides to watch and bet the race. More Drinking and Singing ensue as the horse starts Winning, but is then in terrible accident. The Alliance decides to save the Horse and miraculously Dream gets better and comes back for the Welsh Grand National. I read the Film Makers Letter and they went out of their way to make this Film Authentic including Real Horse racing scenes created over 2 months of training and rehearsing. Shot entirely in Wales. I personally am reminded of the Australian Film" Phar Lap" and "The Best of Times" except Town backs a broken down football Team for 1 more Game. Phar Lap would beat this Horse as would Seabiscuit, also my order of merit Movie Wise, but recommend them all !
