I never played the original trilogy but I played Andromeda a few months back so having really liked that one I pre-ordered the Mass Effect Legendary remaster. The story is really good I'll give it that. The characters were mostly good but some of the acting seemed over the top. Mainly Kaiden, he was quite shouty. I liked the main story and the main planets were all good and different but I gave up on the sidequests as the different sidequest planets were literally carbon copies of eachother down to the layout of the underground bunker things. The Mako is so gonky even though they "repaired" it in this version so I'd hate to see what it was like in the original! Some of the controls definitely haven't aged well. I know it was made a fair few years back and will have been ahead of its time but for me it's just lacking something.
I will definitely carry on with the other two games as the story has grabbed my attention (even though I know how it all ends). There's enough that I liked to keep me playing and I am enjoying the main game. Maybe if I'd played it originally when it first came out I'd have liked it as much as the diehard fans. Maybe I'll enjoy 2 and 3 more.
