Dear Murderer (1947)

He Concocted The Too Perfect Crime

A mix of paranoia over a wife's fidelity with a vindictive rise of possessivenesss in builds inside of business man Lee Warren as he takes a job position abroad for eight months. His fears seem founded as his wife communicates less at the time he happens upon a tabloid paper whereby a respectable barrister is seen out and about with Vivien, Warren's wife. Lee Warren's paranoia is now fully realized and he decides he must act. A surprise return is in order and it comes complete with what Warren believes is the perfect murder of his wife's paramour.

The set-up is good here. It's an old story at it's core, but it is creatively played out here. You simply need to watch as it gets better as it goes.

Of course there is no such thing as the perfect crime and Warren soon has complications not the least of which is his wife's multiple daliances as well as a policeman who see's past the apparent suicide.

Lee Warren is played by Eric Portman who brings a kind of stubborn underdog madness to Warren. His wife, coldly played by Greta Gynt, is glamorous and very self-centered. He is hardly able to keep her ego's attentive needs in check. It's an obvious loser's game save for the fact Warren styles himself as a man who will win at any costs. It may be B-movie grade, but it works as a whole on a higher level.
