An absolute gem of a series
13 April 2021
Absolutely delightful and beautifully filmed on location in Paris and Normandy this series is a gem. Mont St Michel looks so magical. The locations feel meaningful not just pretty as they travel through Auvers Sur Oise, Honfleur and Deauville. The sophisticated and insightful story is expertly weaved into the surroundings and each of the characters on the trip is interesting. Especially liked the irascible restaurant owner who keeps scolding and can't express affection and his depressed wife. He embodies a lot of the older generation Asian man issues that many will find familiar perhaps someone they know in real life. Watch out for struggling couple featuring Choi Woo Shik of Parasite. The main romance is nice. Lee Yeon Hee as the tour guide who was dumped by her husband does a good job - she is pretty enough and acts well. Jung Yung Hwa as the main lead facing a whistleblower dilemma is sincere looking. Quite funny role of Yoon Park as a man chasing after her. The tale features some astute contrasts between Korean and European values and surprisingly is quite forward about romantic relationships unlike many K dramas they get beyond first base. There are a couple of believable twists to keep you interested.

At 12 episodes this is one of the shows I wish was actually longer than it is. Unlike other dramas they don't just spend the first 2 episodes in Europe they stay throughout and flash back to Korea in between. A must watch.
