Except for Dr Detroit, Akroyd never was worse on film than this. Of course he's supposed to be unlikable. But the problem is he's completely unfunny.
This film was also when Eddie Murphy started to decline in his early career. 48 Hours had many funny lines. Here, half of the "jokes." are just him mugging for the camera, a big smile or looking smug passing for humor.
Ironically the old veteran actors are the most entertaining in this "vehicle for Eddie Murphy." He's done far better, especially his classic stand up concert films.
