Of course these things happen in real life. However, I didn't find the movie believable. It might have been different when made, but of course today children would be hard pressed to get $ without adult appearances. Wellness checks are now common - someone would call police or another agency - surely the teacher. Besides those types of things, I just didn't feel the actions of the kids were believable. And thus, it was boring. Your mileage may vary
