Another good Springsteen doc
31 January 2021
Darkness on the Edge of Town is a favourite for many die hard bruce fans... but I can't fully count myself among one of them.

I still think it is a very good album - maybe you just need to be in a more specific mood to properly enjoy it, compared to something like Born To Run - and this documentary did a pretty good job at telling the story of its creation, as well as highlighting what makes it a classic in the eyes of so many fans.

I did particularly love the old behind the scenes footage, especially Bruce and Steven messing around with a very fun, very loose early version of Sherry Darling, later polished up for 1980's The River.

Also, Clarence Clemons was just wonderful. This was made not long before his passing. Though I wasn't an E Street Band fan until about 2016, in a way, I still feel the immense loss of the Big Man, and the essential role he played in so many of Springsteen's best albums.
