A Fairly Standard, But Enjoyable, Family Christmas Movie
25 December 2020
Pros: 1. The soundtrack is suitably Christmas-themed and adds an upbeat tone to the film. 2. There are really good performances by Martin Freeman (Paul Maddens), Marc Wootton (Mr. Poppy), and Jason Watkins (Gordon Shakespeare). 3. The humour is over-the-top and incredibly silly but hilarious and heart-warming at the same time. 4. There is excellent chemistry between Martin Freeman, Marc Wootton, and the children. 5. The play sequence is massively entertaining and surprisingly well-choreographed and thought-out.

Cons: 1. Paul Maddens opposing Christmas is over done, and too in your face. 2. Somehow Cracker The Dog uses their paw to unmute TV. 3. The cinematography is really flat, which not only dampens the lively feel slightly, but it also provides for rather unappealing visuals. 4. The inside of Oakmoor's classrooms clearly do not belong to an elite institution which helps to shatter the immersion. 5. Some of the child actors give very wooden performances.
