The Office (2001–2003)

US Version light years better than UK version.

So I'm from UK. I originally bought this back in 2003. I recently revisited it as it was on Netflix and (surprisingly) the US version is on Prime. Have been binge watching them all.

Firstly I just want to say although the first series of the UK version is simply hilarious, the second series isn't even close. It's more darker and whereas I could recognise the jokes I wasn't really laughing as I realised I didn't really care about the characters.

The US version is literally a monster and I can definitely understand why. The first 7 series with Steve Carell can never ever be topped. The last 2 seasons (which were seriously dull and poor) I put on a par with the UK version. They have soooo much in common. You have the Andy character wanting to be a big star/Brent did too and coupled to the occasional titters and not actually laughing they are so alike.

The US versions had so many more characters that were funny in their own right. Dwight was hilarious (better than Gareth). Kevin (much better than Keith), Jim was a better character than Tim (Tim in series 2 was downright nasty and not funny at all) and lastly Pam was much more human and engaging than Dawn.

That's my honest opinion. The US took a great idea and made it what it should have been. Forget the stupid comments about British humour and US humour- it's all rubbish. Funny is funny and the US one had me howling in laughter. The UK version was just cringy.
