Review of Reckless

Reckless (1935)
2/10
Bad Harlow

Warning: Spoilers
I did not like Reckless at all. To be fair, Musicals and me do not work ( except Pure Country), so I was apprehensive about watching it, but it had a great Director in Victor Fleming and it had William Powell ( who is usually very good), so I tried it. There was someone here who said Jean Harlow's Mona Leslie ( talk about a tacky name ) is a bad version of Mae West ( who I do not like at all) and that is exactly right. The problem with Harlow is she was an actress that she was good but in small doses ( unlike Salma Hayak, Veronica Lake, Marilyn Monroe or Clara Bow who light up the screen ( and are not simply beautiful to look at)). The worst was her singing and dancing ( she simply cannot and you can tell the singing was dubbed). As for Powell his Ned Riley is a character that he could play in his sleep and has played before and better ( See High Pressure). Franchot Tone is also on the movie, and plays Bob Harrison a millionaire who Mona marries but it is an unhappy marriage and spoilers ahead kills himself. The issue with me and Tone is this: He is meh. He does nothing for me, he does nothing to offend me. The best one in the movie ( by far) is May Robson who plays Granny. She has some nice scenes with Powell and that is the best part of the movie. Because of her I give the movie 2/10 stars.
