So close... almost

When making a movie about combining two different genres of art, you better make sure you nail the final choreography. Missing the bullseye is not an option.

This movie has a decent enough basic story, an acceptable plot twist, reasonably good directing, and some of the best dancing (within a limited scope). Some of the dancers were incredible, stand-out, jaw dropping good. The movie holds attention all the way through.

Some of the "practice" scenes are a bit of a yawner, but were tolerable amidst the energy of the majority of the film. But as we've seen in so many films, if that final choreography isn't amazing, it's going to fizzle. The concept behind this was mixing of ballet and street dancing and it doesn't... quite... get there. Fizzle. The final dance sequence isn't all that impressive, plopping this squarely in the middle of the "Yet another dance movie", with little to make it stand out from other dance films. A shame really, because some of the dance sequences are astoundingly good.

Nice try, but if you're gonna take on a project like this ya better really hit that final mark.
