A great British multicultural film, depicting Manchester as it really is, (or should be / have been). Fine acting from the ensemble. All life is here: alcoholism, mixed marriages, marital problems, giving birth ( on a train..), the Queen's favourite quiz show, a slushy proposal, total integration.. until you take stock of the optimistic dreaming of Jimmy McGovern, whose brief is to tell us how it could possibly be, if this nation were not still polarised. Sadly, the premise of the film is what could be, or rather, what could have been. United we stand, divided we still fall
