Grandma Takes Charge!

Warning: Spoilers
Following the revelation that young Tina Spangler is pregnant at age fifteen, the one character with the ability to instill discipline in the family is Grandma Spangler. Unfortunately, she is sent packing by the midpoint of the film, and the approach taken by the family is best stated by the father, Cal Spangler: "It'll all work itself out."

The filmmakers struggled to place a positive spin on the Spangler family's response to teen pregnancy. While they were decent people, the parents, Cal and Evie Spangler, often seemed lost in a fog as to how to cope with their family situation.

Young Tina stoically marched on to the delivery room to successfully bring little Caleb into the world. Unfortunately, the film had a "soap opera" feeling, and the sentiment seemed artificially imposed by the filmmakers.

The film needed a greater presence of a single character: Grandma.
