Review of The Cakemaker

Incredible perspective on a possible Israeli-German friendship

Warning: Spoilers
This is an amazingly delicate take on the prospects of German-Israeli friendship and cooperation.

It's not clear whether the baker is trying to repay his former lover's attempts to build an Israeli-German alliance (at a small company level) or just looking to support his former lover's widow and child.

Thomas' dual loss is heartbreaking and remains unresolved when the film ends.

A couple of anomalies I found. In the end they don't take much away from the experience.

1) She throws out a pair of nice enough plastic bins just because they had some rotting food in them. If it were me, I would have washed them out thoroughly and put them out in the sun to dry. Would be good as new.

2) She hires the baker to work even though they never show any other clients visiting the cafe. Though the film does show other clients in the cafe later on in the story.
