Spooky Buddies (2011 Video)
8/10
Came for the Harland Williams and was not disappointed!

Warning: Spoilers
Harland Williams is a treasure. His entire filmography is just one cinematic masterpiece after another. These days he mostly does voice work and kid's movies, but that's where the real money is anyway so it's a brilliant move by a master strategist.

Spooky Buddies is, in a word, terrifying. Five puppies are killed in the first five minutes. This is to let you know this isn't your daddy's Buddies movie. And don't @ me, I know they all come back at the end. That doesn't mean they weren't dead those 80 years.

While my love for Harland knows no bounds, the really stars here are the puppies. Across the board great performances. Rose Bud especially. The human actors could learn a trick or two from these puppies.

The masterful Robert Vince knows how to make a dog movie and it shows here. The set is his chess board and when Vince is firing on all cylinders each scene is perfectly paced, bringing everything to a slow boil until BOOM everything speeds towards genre bending conclusion.

Highly recommended.
