Really dumb movie with its heart in the right place

Warning: Spoilers
I expected a lot from this movie and was so disappointed. Yes, the locations are lovely and the elephants are delightful, but the acting is less than stellar and the plot just has so many dumb elements that my hand hurts from slapping my forehead. It all starts when the protagonist, Phoenix, on his first day in Africa, on his very first safari, wanders off alone into the veld, chasing a meerkat. When he realises his error, he of course decides to wander further rather than stay put - something most parents would teach their kids. Then, just to increase his chances of being spotted by a search party, he crawls into a cave and spends the night there. And so it goes on.

This isn't a bad movie. It just has very little to offer to adults. Kids should lap it up though and parents will enjoy watching it with them. And, I guess, if this movie has a role in alerting a new generation to the atrocity of ivory poaching, then it's not a total loss.
