Warning: Spoilers
The movie Hocus Pocus is a movie the entire family will love. The characters are well developed as well as having a good storyline. The movie that came out in 1993 is still a beloved Halloween classic twenty-five years later thanks to the work of director Kenny Oretega and a talented cast. The movie tells the story of how new to town Max played by Omri Katz and his sister Dani played by Thodra Birtch bring three centuries old witches back from the dead, Winifered Sanderson (Bette Midler) the leader of the group, Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker) the boy crazy one, and Mary Sanderson (Kathy Najimy) the funny one of the group. The Sanderson sisters soon plot their revenge for their untimely death centuries earlier. I liked how each character had their own flaws all while giving three powerful leading women something not many movies at the time would have done, especially not a Disney movie. I did not like how Sarah Sadnerson could be characterized as being overly sexual, yes that is how the character is written but to come from a movie produced by Disney I think just goes too far past what would ever be expectable in a children's movie to be completely honest it should have never been included in the first place. This movie has a pg rating I would suggest not allowing children under thirteen to watch alone due to the over sexualized characters as well as the graphic nature of some scenes. The movie also includes a Halloween song favorite in the form of I'll Put A Spell On You. Hocus Pocus has also inspired its own show at Disney's Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party called Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular. The three Sanderson sisters call upon Disney villains to help create a special Halloween spell that results in the castle being decorated in light projections and fireworks all around the most magical place on earth. The show itself involves music and dancing as well as some light projections of its own of things like evil spirits and bugs. Hocus Pocus is also having a twenty-five-year spectacular celebrating the movie and al its years of success.
